I have never heard Ward say one indearing thing about his dad, have you?

Do we ever hear about Ward's mom?

He must have been the typical father of that generation who was born in late 19th or early 20th century. Very stern.

Yeah, I'd imagine his motto was, Spare the rod, spoil the child. Or, Children should be seen and not heard.

On the show itself, by my own observations only, the only time I heard Ward speak of his father, whereby his father expressed affection, was when he described his days of playing HS football.

He said something like:

"I was the best football player of Shaker Heights, said a panel of three: My father, my mother, and my aunt"

Ward's talk was one thing ... He was actually caught exaggerating more than once (the walking distance episode being one)

Ward actions were more than reasonable - a nice guy to all (family, friends & strangers)

So I'd say Ward's dad did a good job raising his son - back in the olden days +- lol

I think him being or becoming a minster (?) in real life shined through in his demeanor.

seeing how he directed many episodes, I wonder if he got to enter any of his input ?

My Adad was a minister. Nothing good about him. If you have not lived with the religious, you could only assume that there was something shiny about them. A lot of them suck...hard.

point taken - sorry to hear that

Unfortunately all of these happenings show the real reason why some go into the priesthood. Sad.

I think I heard the Pope gave warning on this to some Cardinals he recently promoted.

It's too bad that so many do suck so hard. I wonder if it's because they were given the green light for so long and nobody doubted their word that it attracted the nuts?

My grandfather supposedly was a child molester (I wasn't there so I cannot say).

He was forced to go to work in the coal mines of WY when he was 10. Something tells me he was molested in the mines. What a perfect place to do something like that. Every Sunday, all the minors spent all day Sunday in the Mormon Church. Such saints.

It is well known that there is a monastery of monks in Massachusetts that are mostly all gay ... I wonder if these things were common in past centuries ?

Right there I believe you hit the nail right on the head. That belief in devine forgiveness, I think is very susceptible to abuse.

The belief that one can go out and sin all week, then accept providence on Sunday and have all be forgiven...is quite intoxicating for some folks. Priests and ministers being (IMO) no exception.

Just to taunt the local chaplain at this organization I used to frequent, when me and some of the other guys used to butt heads, we would say "well Jesus forgives me, so should you" just to irk the chaplain.

My son got baptized by the priest in the church in the area. If I had listened to the local gossip or belonged to that church, I would have known about him. At the time he baptized my son he was cavorting with a 12 year old boy. That boy subsequently died in a car crash with Paquin. I knew about Geoghan he was a notorious molester. Most of the priests were given a pass in Massachusetts because of the devout Cardinal Bernard Law.
