Pat was an absolute legend. Pat was ushered into the business by Johnnie Mae Young and he was off to the races. His years working in San Francisco for Roy Shire were legendary. His tag team with Ray Stevens was one of the Top 3 teams of all time in my opinion. His feud with Stevens following Ray's face turn sold out the Cow Palace for months on end. Patterson had a mind for the business like no other. His ideas moved forward with the business which is what made him so valuable. Pat single handily invented the most successful gimick match in pro wrestling history, The Royal Rumble. His MSG Street Fight with Sgt. Slaughter was one of the Top 10 matches in MSG history. Pat, who was the first openly gay wrestler ever, died today from liver cancer. He was 79. RIP Pat Patterson. |
