Default The Two Dark Shadows Movies

For those who have seen either of the Dark Shadows movies, which are "Night of Dark Shadows" (1971) and "House of Dark Shadows" (1970), what did you think of them?

I liked Night of Dark Shadows better then House of Dark Shadows because House of Dark Shadows is just another verstion of the 1967 storyline on Dark Shadows. NODS was originally 150 minutes long, but to please the president of MGM they cut it down to 97 minutes, so at times it doesn't make sense, but I still prefer it.

I don't believe that I've seen either one of the Dark Shadows films. Were they theatrical releases and did they star the original series cast as well?

They were theatrical releases and they both starred the original cast. The second one doesn't have any of the characters from the first movie or from the series, except for some name similarites.

House of Dark Shadows (1970)
starring
Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins
Grayson Hall as Julia Hoffman
Kathryn Leigh Scott as Maggie Evans
Roger Davis as Jeff Clark
Nancy Barrett as Carolyn Stoddard
John Karlen as Willie Loomis
Thayer David as Professor Timothy Elliot Stokes
Louis Edmonds as Roger Collins
Don Briscoe as Todd Jennings
David Henesy as David Collins
Dennis Patrick as Sheriff George Patterson
Lisa Richards as Daphne Budd
Jerry Lacy as Minister
Barbara Cason as Mrs. Johnson*
Paul Michael as Old Man at the Inn
Humbert Allen Astredo as Dr. Forbes
Terry Crawford as Todd's Nurse
Michael Stroka as the Pallbearer
and
Joan Bennett as
Elizabeth Collins Stoddard

*I think Clarice Blackburn, the Mrs. Johnson from the series, was doing a play at the time the movie came out

Night of Dark Shadows (1971)
David Selby as Quentin Collins/Charles Collins
Kate Jackson as Tracy Collins
Lara Parker as Angelique Collins
Grayson Hall as Carlotta Drake
John Karlen as Alex Jenkins
Nancy Barrett as Clair Jenkins
James Storm as Gerard Stiles
Christopher Pennock as Gabriel Collins
Diana Millay as Laura Collins
Clarice Blackburn as Mrs. Castle
Monica Rich as Sarah Castle

Okay - I loved Night of Dark shadows better with Angelique. I thought she looked so beautiful in the movie plus David Selby looked fine too.....

Thanks for all the information, Burke! You really know your Dark Shadows! I was wondering, whatever happened to the actress who played Angelique, Lara Parker? She was always my favorite, along with Kathryn Leigh Scott as Maggie.

Lara Parker guest-starred in many shows from the 70s/80s such as "The Rockford Files" & "Kojak". She's also appeared in a few films. She was on the soap opera "Capitol" from 1985 to 1986 as Linda Vandenburg

I had no idea that Lara was on "Capitol". She would be perfect to play on one of today's soapies, where woman over the age of forty can have a thriving career. Thanks again for the information, Burke!

NODS is ok, but HODS was better. Although I did hate that every main character died in the movie. I also thought it was VERY stupid that they put Maggie & Jeff together, they should have brought Joe into the movie and left Jeff out.
