Beaver’s Doll Buggy and Substitute Father were badly written. Almost like they ran out of ideas. Beaver dumps the doll buggy so Richard and Gilbert don’t get it or did he not want them to see him with it? Either way R and G don’t seem to mind pushing it down the sidewalk why should Beaver. Eddie had a few good scenes however.
Substitute father was just written because Ward wasn’t in the episode he was headed back home it being the end of the season. The only good part was Beaver swearing at Arthur. Another episode where Beaver gets caught but tells Miss Landers he tripped him and she doesn’t care. Wally was just creepy acting like a father. Wally goes to get the roast and takes forever. He walks in with the hunk of meat on the platter and says “This is so big I don’t think I can carve it.” June should have said ‘Well you just carved us all meat but you can’t carve meat on that plate get the carving board you ninny. |

Later in Doll Carriage Gilbert comes over and Penny stops by, and is mad that Beaver gave Gilbert the buggy. Gilbert didn't even question that (That's not the way it came down, Penny. I didn't know anything about you giving it to him--I found it in a ditch.) This episode also is the first one where we get the idea Beaver and Penny kind of like each other.
The other odd thing about this episode is we have no idea why these kids were building the coasters. At least in the soap box episode of Dennis it was clear there was a race at the end. |

Good point. Yeah why didn’t Gilbert ask what she’s talking about.
Also love how both episodes had those two little girls in one scene. Only one has a line the other just stands by. She asks about having a baby in the buggy and asking Wally why he’s in grammar school. |
