Who is the longest running character in sitcom history? Is it Frasier Crane? I'm not sure because there have been other characters that have been on successful long running shows and then spun off on their own.
For Example: Rhoda The Jeffersons Archie Bunker Jack Tripper |

I believe in two years he will be the longest consecutive running character in television history. I believe that's why Kelsey has signed on for two more years. That will mark the character of Frasier Crane being on the air for twenty consecutive years!

I'd have to fly to Seattle every time I ovulate. Frasier: Right, okay. So then, your plan is for me to visit some local doctor, freeze my essence, and then bring it home with you. Lilith: Correct. I'll take mine to go! |

Kelsey Grammer is attempting to beat the record held by James Arness, who played the character of Marshal Matt Dillon on "Gunsmoke" for twenty seasons (or years).
If you wanna get technical, Mr. Grammer has played his character on TWO series, since there will never ever be a sitcom or drama that will last twenty seasons. But as Dr. Lilith Sternin posted, he will hold the new record for most years on TV playing one character. |

Thanks, I appreciate everybody's info. Although I will say that Law & Order has a legitimate shot at lasting 20 years.
