Default Live from New York - 6 shows all in a row!

"Saturday Night Live is extending its unprecedented run with consecutive shows during its 46th season. In addition to the previously announced five shows in a row (Oct. 3 through Oct. 31), there will now be an additional sixth original SNL on Nov. 7 on the Saturday following Election Day. John Mulaney hosts this Saturday, Oct. 31, with musical guest The Strokes. After the 6 all-new episodes in a row, SNL will be on hiatus for the rest of November and will return for three all-new shows in December (Dec. 5, 12 and 19) to wrap up the Fall run (9 total episodes, plus primetime Election special on Nov. 2 at 10pm). Saturday Night Live is produced in association with Broadway Video and airs LIVE on Saturdays at 11:30pm ET/8:30pm PT on NBC. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels. It's usually 3 one, one off, so I get why this is news - the thing is, that third show usually has less funny material and burnt out stars. So why would they push it to 6 shows in a row?

John Mulaney was "deeply irresponsible" joking on SNL that "nothing much will change" if either Trump or Biden wins

"The stand-up comedian delivered an inexplicable 'both sides' bit about Biden and Trump just three days before the 2020 election," said Matt Wilstein, calling his comments "a major miss" in an otherwise solid monologue. "On November 3rd there is an elderly man contest," Mulaney said. "So there’s two elderly men and you’re supposed to pick your favorite of the elderly men,” he continued. “You can put it in the mail or you can go and write down which elderly man you like and we’ll add them all up. Then we might have the same elderly man or we might have a new elderly man. But just rest assured, no matter what happens, nothing much will change in the United States. The rich will continue to prosper while the poor languish. Families will be upended by mental illness and drug addiction. Jane Lynch will continue to book lots of projects.” As Wilstein notes, "those three examples may be broadly true, but for Mulaney to tell the millions of people watching SNL three days before the election that there is essentially no difference between Donald Trump and Joe Biden can only be described as deeply irresponsible." Wilstein points out that Mulaney did urge viewers to vote. "You’ve got to vote," he said. "Vote as many times as you can, fill in every circle, every dot they have, fill them in."

Dave Chappelle to return as host of SNL's post-presidential election episode

Saturday Night Live announced that Chappelle will host its record sixth straight episode without a break on Nov. 7. SNL didn't name a musical guest. This will be the first time Chappelle has hosted SNL since the first Saturday after the 2016 presidential election, when he famously said: “I’m wishing Donald Trump luck. I’m going to give him a chance, and we the historically disenfranchised demand that he give us one, too.” Six months later, Chappelle expressed regret for his remarks, saying: “I was the first guy on TV to say ‘Give Trump a chance.’ I f***ed up. Sorry.”
