Default Deleting threads

Why can’t one delete a thread they start (immediately, or if no replies have been given) but every subsequent post in a thread has the option for the poster to delete?

I think I may have seen an explanation on this before, but I don’t remember it.

I don't think the software takes into account how many replies there are. It just operates on the belief that deleting a thread has the potential to delete posts that are not yours, which is why only mods/admins have that power.

Thanks. Sounds reasonable.

See ya in a few years when I forget the answer again and re-ask the question

I don't even know how to delete posts. How do you do that?

If you click EDIT on one of your posts you should get a screen like this where one of your options is DELETE

If there was an option to let people delete their own threads if there were no replies or if it was a duplicate, I would have that turned on. The reason that the option to delete own threads is off that it would delete other people's posts. I don't think anybody should be able to delete other people's posts just because they created a thread.

You can report or send a PM for any duplicate threads.

I have seen a VBB site that did let you delete your thread TJ if no replies.........

Have you tired it here and see if it dissables DELETE if there is an active reply? (Not a soft deleted one)

I know of another site where the OP can delete their own thread. My main concern (if the decision were mine) would be a long thread that would potentially tie up resources deleting it.
