LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Actress Conchata Ferrell, best known for her role as the acerbic housekeeper Berta on "Two and a Half Men," has died at age 77. Ferrell died surrounded by family Monday of complications following a cardiac arrest. Jon Cryer, her costar on "Two and a Half Men," offered a tribute to Ferrell via Twitter: "She was a beautiful human Berta's gruff exterior was an invention of the writers. Chatty's warmth and vulnerability were her real strengths. I'm crying for the woman I'll miss, and the joy she brought so many." Ferrell had a decades-long career on stage, television and film. But it was her role on the 12-year run of the popular sitcom that brought her two Emmy Award nominations and the most recognition. Over the summer as news emerged of Ferrell's heart attack, her many costars from over the years wished her well and praised her talents. "She was a light. A beautiful spirit," Viola Davis tweeted in July. Ferrell was also nominated for an Emmy in 1992 for her supporting role as attorney Susan Bloom on the drama "L.A. Law." She appeared in films such as "Network," "Erin Brockovich" and "Mr. Deeds" and shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Hot L Baltimore," and "Matlock." |

I first remember Conchata Ferrell when she played April on the short-lived Norman Lear sitcom Hot L Baltimore. But to me, her best role was Berta on Two and a Half Men. She will live on in reruns of the Charlie Sheen sitcom. May she rest in peace.

What a gem of an actress. She was always excellent regardless of the role. I always loved her in Mystic Pizza and how she reunited with Julia Roberts years later in Erin Brockovich.
May she

I've been a fan since Hot l Baltimore; terrific in everything, but especially Heartland (1979).
"In a movie filled with wonderful things, the very best thing in Heartland is Conchata Ferrell's voice. It is strong, confident, clear as a bell, and naturally musical. It is a fine instrument, bringing authenticity to every word it says. It puts this movie to a test, because we could not quite accept that voice saying words that sounded phony and contrived. In Heartland, we never have to." Roger Ebert |

Echo the sentiments on her Two and a Half Men role. They really had to elevate her to main cast for the second season--the writing for her was excellent, and she carried it off beautifully.
RIP CF. |

May she rest in peace. She was good in the tv show Hearts Afire. She had some funny dialog on that show. But she really had some good comebacks on Two and a Half Men.
