HOUSTON - Singer-songwriter Johnny Nash has died at the age of 80.

Nash, a Houston-native, had been in declining health in recent months
He is best known for his hit "I Can See Clearly Now," which he wrote and recorded. The record is a Billboard Hot 100 Chart #1 hit song.

Nash is also known for his reggae music. He was one of the first non-Jamaican singers to record reggae music in Kingston, Jamaica, according to his website.

Nash died Tuesday afternoon at his home in Houston.

He is survived by his wife Carli and son Johnny.

Sad news, indeed. Johnny Nash best known for "I Can See Clearly Now".

I Can See Clearly Now is such a happy song with wonderful lyrics and when you listen to it you feel a happy vibe coming. I believe Jimmy Cliff's version was from the Cool Runnings soundtrack and is played during the end credits of the movie. Besides Jimmy Cliff Anne Murray also covered I Can See Clearly Now on her children's album There's A Hippo In My Tub as well as teen group Everlife. Johnny Nash also discovered Gloria Gaynor and she had her first hit on his record label as well
