Yūko Takeuchi, Japanese Actress Known for "Miss Sherlock" and Ringu, dies at 40

Japanese actress Yūko Takeuchi — who helped break barriers as the lead of HBO's female-led Sherlock Holmes adaptation "Miss Sherlock" — has died at age 40.

EW has confirmed the star was found dead Sunday at her home in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward in what police are investigating as a suspected suicide-by-hanging, according to multiple outlets.

Takeuchi is best known to North American audiences at the center of "Miss Sherlock", Hulu and HBO Asia's female-led adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's beloved mystery novels.

She also appeared in a small role in Hideo Nakata's J-horror hit Ringu, which inspired Gore Verbinski's 2002 English-language remake The Ring starring Naomi Watts.

Takeuchi is survived by her husband, actor Taiki Nakabayashi, and two children.

She was one of the two teen girls at the beginning of Ringu. One of the better horror movie openings.
