who did you like better in the role, Barbara Pepper or the woman who played her the last season? (I forget her name)

Also, why'd they have 2?

Barbara's health problems forced her to leave the series, and she passed away in 1969. Sadly she was only 54.

I always thought Barbara Pepper was a better Mrs. Ziffel. They should have retired the role after she died.

I still thought Fran Ryan was good and she had a lot of funny moments but the producers should have just had her play a different character. Maybe as Doris' sister.
