This series pretty much always had good casting for supporting characters. Like the macho guy who looked like Charlton Heston that Archie looks up to, who turned out to be gay.

The actor that played Fred is 6 years younger than Carroll O'Connor. They definitely could be brothers.

Carroll O'Connor looked older than his age.
