Default This last season of All in the Family confirms the stupidity of the Edith character

She was ok with Stephanie's father just dropping off his daughter and being free and not trying to send Child services after him. Just content with him not having to raise his own child and adding another expense to their household where she was not bringing in any of the money that was going to pay for stephanie's clothes and food in addition to the expenses they already had.
Damm she was stupid lol

It doesn't make Edith stupid at all. Stephanie was family and the alternative would of had Steph in a group home or worse. Edith and to a lesser extent Archie took her in out of love. They were probably experiencing empty nest syndrome as well after Mike, Gloria, and Joey moved to California.

I think you're way off on this one TVFactFan.

But she allows the dad to get off scott free and they have an additional expense which is not coming out of her pocket lol

Gloria and Mike got off "scot free" for 4 yrs.....and even when the first time they tried to move out, Edith wouldn't let them cuz she said Gloria was anemic and would be dead inside a week from cooking, cleaning etc according to her doctor..

So it really was about love and nothing else...

Not so much taking care of stephanie but to let the dad just walk away and not have not have child services or no type of human service agency go after him for child support or child abandonment

Maybe cuz they KNEW her dad was a worthless POS as we would see later on with her bat mitzvah, and the way he "moved around", CPS wouldn't be able to catch up with him anyway....and he had a "history" of abandoning her as well (Stephanie said this herself)..

Also, although Floyd was a POS, he was still family. The Bunkers just wanted him out off their lives, including Stephanie's, for good. Plus the Bunkers knew that by pursuing Floyd with child services and such that there was a good chance they would remove Stephanie from the Bunker's care. Floyd's ex mother in-law, the hag who appeared in a few episodes of ABP, would of been first in line to get custody of Stephanie over Archie and Edith.

So I certainly understand where you're coming from TVFactFan, but life is very rarely black and white. It's all just shades of gray. In other words, there's usually more to the story than what's on the surface.

Plus, Stephanie SAID she didn't want to go and live with her father anymore....She loved being with Edith and charmed Archie to death whenever she jumped into his lap..

Love the "hag" reference...That made me laugh OUT LOUD...I detested that woman....but they came close to losing Steph when that 2nd social worker said she would probably go to a closer relative (the "hag")

If it weren't for the judge who actually understood where Stephanie was coming from, she very well might have ended up with "hag grandma"...

I can tell the 9th season is not one of the ones I watched too often because I didnt know Edith gave her the nickname "Stepphie"
