Default My Top NBC Shows

1. Fame- Even though just the first third of Fame aired on NBC before moving to syndication, the first two seasons are fantastic with Lori Singer, Erica Gimpel, and Lee Curreri.
2. Columbo
3. Frasier- First six seasons are top notch.
4. Dragnet (1967)- While it was already good in the 50s, Harry Morgan’s addition enhanced the color version.
5. Wings
6. Adam-12
7. Family Ties
8. Dragnet (1951)
9. Seinfeld
10. The Facts of Life- great show most of its run until Charlotte Rae left
11. I Dream of Jeannie
12. DAG- best one season sitcom of all time
13. Law and Order- became a good show when Jerry Orbach joined
14. Mad About You (1992)
15. Matlock
16. Night Court
17. Highway to Heaven- I like this a lot more than Michael Landon’s more popular leading show Little House on the Prairie.
18. Diff’rent Strokes- First 5.5 seasons are good. But the Sam and Maggie era is awful.
19. My Two Dads
20. Blockbusters (Bill Cullen)
21. Manifest
22. Classic Concentration (Alex Trebek)
23. The Weakest Link (Anne Robinson)
24. Law and Order: Criminal Intent- the Vincent D’Onofrio episodes
25. Grease: You’re the One that I Want!
26. Genius Junior
27. Cheers
28. Law and Order: Trial by Jury
29. Awake
30. Believe
31. Password Plus (Allen Ludden)
32. Our House
33. 3rd Rock from the Sun
34. Hazel- All of the NBC seasons with George and Dorothy were good.
35. The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson
36. The Tonight Show with Jay Leno
37. The Jay Leno Show
38. The Million Second Quiz
39. The Rockford Files
40. C.P.O. Sharkey
41. Blossom
42. Timeless
43. Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist
44. Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector
45. Silver Spoons
46. Punky Brewster (1984)
47. Super Password
48. Emergency!
49. The Brady Brides
50. A.D. The Bible Continues
51. Mister Sterling
52. The Lyon’s Den
53. ALF
54. Growing Up Fisher
55. Twenty-One (Maury Povich)
56. Chicago Justice
57. Star Trek
58. The Cosby Show- First 5 seasons are the best. The addition of annoying brat Olivia dragged it down.
59. Caroline in the City
60. Mrs. Columbo
61. 1 vs. 100 (Bob Saget)
62. Ed
63. The Marriage Ref
64. Crossing Jordan
65. Abby’s
66. America’s Got Talent
67. Valerie- Only the Valerie Harper seasons, I don’t like the Hogan Family era.
68. Revelations
69. Kraft Suspense Theatre

Not ranked in this list is Bachelor Father. That is a favorite show of mine with a unique story: all of the big three broadcast networks aired Bachelor Father with it just lasting five seasons overall among NBC, CBS, and ABC.

No CHiPs, Late Night with David Letterman, Gimme a Break, Unsolved Mysteries or American Dreams? Did you pick these titles out of a hat? You should expand your horizons a little bit. This list gets a big thumbs down for those omissions.

As a Jay Leno fan I naturally don't like David Letterman. I doubt I would like Unsolved Mysteries, not a fan of the true crime genre. I tried 6 episodes of Gimme a Break, it was ok. I liked what I saw of American Dreams, but that wasn't much and a long time ago. Chips I have never seen, would probably like it.

Unsolved Mysteries was much more than just a true crime show. It had all kinds of mysteries. The mix of segments made it special.

That weasel Jay Leno stole The Tonight Show from David Letterman, but I guess it all worked out for them in the end. Then he stole it a second time from Conan O'Brien. Check out the excellent 1996 HBO movie The Late Shift.

I know it's only Monday, but this is the post of the week so far. I agree with all of it. I still have the HBO VHS original home video of 'The Late Shift'.

It didn’t also become a movie, but the same guy who wrote The Late Shift also wrote a follow up book about Leno screwing over Conan.

Conan never deserved the Tonight Show in the first place. Jay was taking back what was rightfully his. And Letterman is a big baby. All his whining about not getting the Tonight Show, yet Letterman's career hardly suffered with CBS treating him like a king.

Unsolved Mysteries has a whole forum here, between the All Other TV Shows and Theme Song forums. It is popular, 69 viewing the Unsolved Mysteries board now.

I wish we had more sitcom boards that were active as the one for Unsolved Mysteries. That board has always had a big audience.

Leno was never in Carson's or Letterman's league. Carson always wanted Letterman as his successor. Leno just appealed to a wider audience.

Letterman was an innovator. He helped a lot to further Leno's career. He had him on his show like 41 times. It's pretty telling that he never had him on his show again after 1993.

There are some good fanmade videos on the late night wars on YouTube.
