1. He tries to come home and be romantic with Edith after getting attention from an attractive waitress
2. All she wants to do is talk about Old people at the sunshine home 3. Then she was never home because she was always at the sunshine home So since he had the option and was all alone because his wife was always at the damm sunshine home what else was he supposed to do?? And what kind of conversation is that is that for a husband? Old people at the sunshine home?

I'm sure Archie's behavior was no picnic for Edith either most of the time

The Sunshine Home stuff was sort of interesting, because it addressed what middle-aged (or older) "empty-nester" housewives do with their time. It also reinforced that Edith was generous with her time. But while it was fulfilling for her, I think family has to come first.
I have to agree with TVFactFan in that Archie's behavior was realistic not just for his character, but for anyone in his circumstances. |

And no, many men would have not cheated. Marriages that last that long are going to go through bad periods. You don't cheat - you work through it. |

There was also the possibility that Edith would cheat with another volunteer or worker at the home, around her age, although it would be out-of-character -- yet Archie is expected to trust her without doubt.

Have you been married for a long-time. I have. My partner want's to talk about something that is important her, and all you want is sex - nope - a-hole ville I am getting off. I know most here are people older. I am a little younger who like the old shows,. But, man, it's like - do your wifely duty territory here. Forget anything that was important to you, I don't want to talk about it, just make dinner, shut up and have sex with me. You know, Carrol O'Connor played him as a parody. This might be the worse post I've seen on here. I just can deal with that. I honestly can't believe this was posted. I'm done. Bye. |

I can understand Edith being tired of being cooped up in the house all the time and needing an outside life. Archie was sexist ~yet he was meant to be that way ~ He wanted an outside life, BUT he wanted Edith's life to revolve only around HIM.

A woman is much more likely to view Archie as sexist than a man would.
Anyway, a single person is free to spend as much time on volunteer work that they want, which is great -- but a married person may not value the partnership much if they let it consume her/his life. Seems like a separation. Separations & divorces were less common for the generation of Archie/Edith, so pursuing that type of storyline for them would've been unrealistic. But infidelity could be touched on, which is what the writers were exploring. |

Gee, I've never seen any Scriptural translation that said:
Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery- Unless One's Spouse Talks About Old Folks Instead of Oneself! |

Archie was FAR from being religious -- he didn't even know how to pronounce the name of his own Rev. Felcher. (lol) Aside from baptizing Joey, he rarely showed inclinations in that regard.
