Default Getting Hit by a Deer

On Gilmore Girls Rory's car got hit by a deer.
And on The Middle Sue got hit by a deer and had to go on crutches.
Are there any other scripted shows with this unlikely scenario of getting hit by a deer?

Collisions with deer are quite common where I live. My friend's son hit a deer a few months back. Last month, we hit a javelina.

Hardly an unlikely scenario.

Used to have a girlfriend who lived where this was common. Happened to her once and her family a few times.

Oh, on The Simpson’s, Homer hits a deer statue with the car

My niece had a run-in with a deer this past spring, I think she was driving either in Minnesota or Wisconsin. Happens more often than I'd realized.

Also, my brother hit one about 25 years ago -- significant damage to his car.

Two summers ago, I was riding my bicycle out the Maumee pathway between New Haven and Ft Wayne, and had a "nature call" in one of the more over grown areas. Upon finishing I turned around, and there was a tiny fawn standing right behind me...I mean like "arms length" behind me. I doubt it was more than a week old. It was a fantastic experience. Looking up and around me, I noticed the mother behind some brush maybe 25 feet away, peering at me very intently.

Also, several years ago a buddy and I were walking along the railroad tracks between Ft Wayne and Roanoke. About on inch of fresh snow had fallen overnight. Pretty soon, we came upon half a deer.....split neatly between the front and back legs. About another 100 yards down the track, we found the other half. Now if a deer will hit a train, I have no doubt they will hit a car.

But my best deer experience came when I was living out in Hayward California. There is a nature preserve just East of Hayward, and I went out there one night to get away from the city lights and do a little star gazing. I hopped up on my hood, rested my back against the windshield.....and fell asleep. When I awoke an hour or so later, my first sight was of a beautiful 8+ point buck, staring me right in the face, from about 5 feet away. It was majestic. I tried my very best to not stir, hoping to make the moment last. But, within just a few minutes I musta twitched or something, because all at once his eyes grew huge and he ran off like lightening.

As best I can figure, I have a pretty good snoring problem (some folks call me "the lawn mower" ) So, I'll bet I got up there on that hood, and started snoring away....and that poor deer probably wondered "WTH?"

But anyway, the moral of all this is, wild animals are all around us. I think that sometimes us people just get too wrapped up in our own priorities to notice the wonderful world for all that it is.

They have so many high schools in Ft. Wayne, GentlemanJim, I'm curious which one you attended. When I was at South Bend Adams, we got slaughtered every year by the Bishop Dwenger football team.

South Side High School, class of '76. And no, my real name is not "Jim".... for anyone inclined to research online year books

I was a "Foster Park Hippie" proudly advancing the cause of the Counter Culture.

Personally, I'm not very familiar with Bishop Dwenger High School, I've driven by it thousands of times.....but never really associated with anyone who went there.

I had a few friends who attended Bishop Luers, and due to the acute cross-town rivalry, I was pretty much brainwashed to see Dwenger as "the other guys"

Interesting off topic tid-bit, But since you are aware of Fort Wayne high schools, I'm sure you are familiar with the Northrup Bruins?

After my time in Hayward, I moved to Torrance California, working at a large shopping center. Time period, mid 1990s. The Northrup marching band would go to Pasadena every year, to march in the Tournament of Roses parade. And, for whatever reason they stayed each year at a hotel that was right across the street from our center. And the day before the parade, they would always come over into our parking lot to rehearse their drills. I guess this was somewhat of a ritual for them. My co-workers, being familiar with the "every year" nature of the rehersal, and learning that I was originally from Ft Wayne.....told me about it on their first visit there after I moved in.

South Side High School Ft Wayne's colors were green and white, with of course a large letter "S" for the lettermen.

Strictly by coincidence, Torrance also has a "South" high school, with colors of green and white (perhaps it was light gray, but VERY similar) as well. And of course, a large letter "S" on their jackets for the athletically motivated..

A young co-worker had attended that school, had lettered in two sports, and just happened to have his jacket at work, on the day in question.

So, I borrowed the jacket, walked out in the parking lot, found the drill master or whatever you call it, Walked right up to him.....and of course, he had already caught a visual of the jacket before I was in conversation range. And I walked up to him and congratulated him (on behalf of South Side High school, of course) for having the second best football team in Northern Indiana.

One of those moments I really wish I had a camera. His expression was priceless. I'm laughing, and he's demanding to know who put me up to "this"....his assistants were all laughing too.

I simply encouraged him to "think about it, you'll figure it out" and then shook his hand and wished him my best for the parade, and walked away.

I was obviously in my 30's at the time, so I am sure he was convinced there was some sinister motive behind it all. And I really hope he wracked his brains out trying to discover the "culprit" once he was back in Ft Wayne. Not bad for a guy who never played a stitch of school ball after the 9th grade, huh?

I have been a Fort Wayne resident most of my life. I knew tenter also lives here, but now I see two other posters who are familiar with Fort Wayne.

Sorry for going off-topic. i used to work with a kind lady who had attended FW South, younger than us.

I just remember so well in the fall of '79, we had our pre-game all-class pep assemblies -- the first one was before the Dwenger football game, which Adams lost something like 41-7. Anyway, the next week at the 2nd assembly:

SB Adams Principal Bill Przybysz: "We ran into some animals last week..."

LOL -- Now we're back on topic (and thanks for the replies).

I believe there may have been an episode of Medium where a woman hit a deer.
Also deer and car collisions are quite common in Tennessee. Me, my son, my husband and even my mother have hit deer. All the accidents happened at night when you couldn't see them until they ran out in front of you.

Hitting a deer could be common in some places. But to be clear, the point of this thread is the opposite: getting hit by a deer.
