Default The site of Sanford and Son's salvage store

A very informative web site regarding site of Sanford and Son salvage that was shown in the beginning and ending of each show. And he even got some help from some of our Sitcomonline members. Good job.

I've read the squad passed by the location but didn't know about them stopping there.

What's also interesting about S&S and Emergency since both show that the same time.

Both debuted in Jan. of 72 though probably different weeks and kept their same time slots with S&S on Fridays and E! on Saturdays.

And both ended in the same month of September 1977

Those are interesting facts regarding Emergency and S&S.Thanks guys.

In one episode of Sanford&Son, Fred did mention the TV show Emergency. In the TV addict episode, Donna call to Lamont to come down saying it was an emergency. Fred was sweating and looking thru the TV Guide saying:"Emergency! What channel is that on?"

This is great information. It was very common in the 70s for openings and closings to sitcoms, to have no resemblance to the sets where the shows were filmed. “Maude” had a screened in front porch in the opening, but not on the set. Archie Bunker had no front porch at all in his show’s opening, but a very large one on the set. Fred and Lamont had the storefront and front door depicted in these pictures, but customers for some reason always ignored that, and went down the driveway to a side door leading into the Sanford living room.

I think filming sitcoms in front of live audience pretty much limit the stage setup, and how much can be shown. You always see one side of living-room or kitchen, but never see the opposite side.

In one episode of S&S called "Steinberg and Son", the camera show what the live audience see with the living room, and yard and kitchen on either side of stage. One can tell that stairs just goes half way up as there is no second floor.

Some shows took pains to make sure internal and external shots were consistent. Examples are The Andy Griffith Show and Mary Tyler Moore (remember the big window?). The Dick Van Dyke Show wisely did no external shots, so they didn’t have to worry about consistency. But in Batman, the mansion used for external shots of “Stately Wayne Manor” clearly didn’t match the sound stage, if you look at the windows. Flash ahead 30 years, and the house used for external shots in “Everybody Loves Raymond” was inconsistent for the same reason.
