Default HAPPY CANADA DAY!!! A salute to great Canadians in sitcoms

Today is a holiday in Canada where we are celebrating the birth of our fine country. I thought I would take this special occasion to salute the great Canadian actors and actresses that have shown up on some of your favorite sitcoms over the years. You may be surprised to learn that some of these people really are Canadian.

MICHAEL J FOX---"Family Ties"; "Spin City"

A perennial favorite of sitcom fans everywhere.

ALAN YOUNG---"Mr. Ed"

Legend has it that he got the job of being Wilbur Post when his boss, the great George Burns, took one look at him and thought:

"He looks like the kind of fellow a horse would talk to."

JIM CARREY---"The Duck Factory"; "In Living Color"

Went on to bigger and better things after his career on TV. Currently my favorite comedian. Allrighty then!!!

CONRAD BAIN---"Maude"; "Diff'rent Strokes"

Mr. Drummond, the head of the most dysfunctional family in TV history---off-screen, that is. Being Maude's neighbor was a breeze by comparison.

ALAN THICKE---"Growing Pains"

And for that we are truly, truly sorry. You can keep him!

HOWIE MANDEL

One of the craziest and wackiest comedians ever, he's never really found his niche in TV except in the cartoon "Bobby's World". On the right show, he could be a legend.

YVONNE DECARLO---"The Munsters"

Lily Munster is Canadian! No wonder Herman was crazy about her.

MATTHEW PERRY---"Friends"

Chandler Bing for Prime Minister!!! It's worth a shot.

LESLIE NIELSEN---"Police Squad"

"Police Squad" only lasted 6 episodes but it led to the "Naked Gun" movies which made him a superstar. And don't ever call him Shirley!

DAVE MADDEN---"The Partridge Family"

Yes, Reuben Kincaid is Canadian too! Which explains a lot.

And let's not forget....

William Shatner
Raymond Burr
Lorne Greene
Dan Aykroyd
Mike Myers
Monty Hall
Alex Trebek

The cast of SCTV: John Candy, Eugene Levy, Dave Thomas, Rick Moranis, Joe Flaherty, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short, Andrea Martin, and Harold Ramis.

Happy Canada Day to you, too....and thanks for the remind of some celebs that I had forgotten were Canadian. There are so many.

I never knew Rick Moranis, Catherine O'hara and Martin Short were canadian. I guess you learn something new everyday.

You forgot to mention the cast of The Kids In The Hall: Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce Mccullough, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompsen. A salute to those great comedian actors, as well.
