Default Ask your doctor if this drug is right for you

Ask your doctor if this medicine is right for you?

How many times have we seen these commercials about some medication that can treat a medical problem or disease we have.

On Youtube, I have been forced to watch a five second advertisement for something called Ozempic for Type 2 Diabetes. I have seen similar drugs advertised to treat Crohn’s Disease, MS, heart disease, fairly to serious diseases.

These sappy advertisements always end with “ask your doctor if (this drug) is right for you.” This is what annoys me. I’m not a doctor and I am not going to ask the doctor when I have a condition if some medicine I saw on TV is right for me. I don’t know, I’m not a doctor. I wonder if patients have actually asked doctors about some medicine they saw on TV. Not to mention on the commercial about the side effects including death.

I find these advertisements stupid and irresponsible. Thoughts?

They're for people that do not have a primary care Dr. and they see someone different anytime they need a Dr.

All those advertisements are very annoying. The side effects they list is sometimes worse than the condition you're trying to cure. I never ask for any of those advertised drugs. The few times a doctor has prescribed me medicine, I always tell them I want the one with the least amount of side effects.

I always suspected this is just an extra layer of product liability protection for the manufacturer.

Malpractice case in court, a patient has had a serious side affect. The attorney for the plaintiff asks the defendant: "If you knew there was a risk to 1 out of 100 people with specific condition, did you do anything to warn them of this risk?"

It's not so much a get out of jail free card as it is...it makes the company look more evil if no precautions were offered.

So, I think it's mostly window dressing designed to make a future jury more sympathetic than they might be if no warning was given. JMHO

I would love for the ban on prescription drug ads to be reinstated!

The reason why these medical commercials get so much airplay is they hope that these medicines that the commercials are selling work for people's illnesses. But when I see these commercials that mention "Side effects may include headaches fainting seeing double dizziness or stomach cramps or back pain if you experience these side effects go to a doctor or hospital" And do you see people actually experience side effects after taking the medicines? Never because I think these commercials actually are telling people lies and they want to make people imagine these side effects. But with more people especially elderly people who complain about aches and pains and as long as more medicines are being made more of these commercials will continue to air on TV
