Lumpy's Scolarship- In the late 1950s-early 1960s I thought it harder to get a sport scholarship from the academic side than it is now. We now that Lumpy was a great blocker in his Senior year, however, that he had failed freshmen or sophamore english twice and was still taking Algebra in senior year a guess got a D in it. How did rate a scholarship when Wally partly due is size was inaligable for the main team he has been all state in in Baseball and track? What with having to work with a Scholarship did they only cover cost the classes and not books and Room & Baord?

You have a good point, Lumpy had a really bad school record overall, and was left back twice. Ward came thru and all Lumpy had to do was go to summer school. Meanwhile Wally didn't get it, excelled in sports, and we assume he got good grades, at least better than Lumpy's.
Why couldn't Ward have called his friend for Wally? |

I recall hearing in discussion back in the 1960's references to "fullboat" scholarships, as opposed to less generous ones, so I'd suppose that your suspicion is spot on.

I know that in law school they have different levels of scholorships. Some give a full-ride and others just buy books. Books are easily $1500+ a year new.
