TV ABC Orders "The Chase" to Series w/ "Jeopardy!" Champs and Sara Haines as Host

"Jeopardy!" Stars in Talks to Lead ABC Remake of ITV’s British Game Show "The Chase"
by Peter White
July 23, 2020

Game show "The Chase" is one of the most consistent hits on British broadcaster ITV. The show is now finally coming to broadcast television in the U.S. with ABC remaking it with the stars of "Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time".

Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer and Brad Rutter are in talks to become “The Chasers” in the unscripted entertainment quiz.

The show, which was adapted by Game Show Network (GSN) in 2013, sees contestants competing against a professional quizzer, known as the Chaser, whose aim is to prevent the contestants from winning a cash prize.

In the UK version, which has been running since 2009, there are six Chasers including Mark Labbett, who also appeared on the GSN version. The contestants must answer general-knowledge questions in a series of cash-builder and head-to-head rounds before trying to win a cash prize in the final chase.

!!! Oh My Gosh Oh My Gosh !!! Did you just tell me The Chase is being revived but this time for ABC? What a surprise because I loved The Chase when it was on GSN and it's still one of my favorite game shows. And you mentioned that Jeopardy champions are gonna be the chasers now? That's a shocking surprise to know because I had hoped Mark Labbett would return to be the chaser. When is the new revival of The Chase gonna premiere on ABC? And who will be the host of this revival?. It seems that ABC is trying to become king of game shows beginning with the successes of the To Tell The Truth remake Press Your Luck Supermarket Sweep and now The Chase. Who knows what's next for ABC?

While Mark won't be the chaser, I just thought of a nice twist. He should host this version.

Most likely I'd pick Bradley Walsh to host the ABC version of The Chase since Doctor Who's on hiatus because he was the star of the original UK version of The Chase but since Brooke Burns is already hosting Masterminds on GSN ABC wasn't able to get her. Why ABC didn't choose Mark Labbett to be one of the chasers is beyond me because you haven't heard anything about Mark Labbett since GSN cancelled The Chase and he would've been a Comeback Kid in America had ABC decided to choose him for this revival of The Chase. I hope that when The Chase makes it's ABC debut they will make it like the UK version of The Chase which is what GSN's version of The Chase was supposed to be like in the first place. A possible second choice for hosting The Chase would be sports anchor Dan Patrick because he was originally gonna host The Chase on GSN but Brooke Burns was chosen instead. I hope The Chase gets high ratings on it's new ABC home because ABC's version of The Chase will most likely gain a high viewership better than when it was on GSN

Well I won't be watching it with them hosting, but I would if they got Mark Labbett to host it.

When will the ABC version of The Chase start filming and airing on TV? 2021 or 2022? I find it shocking that they are remaking it with Jeopardy champions rather than the original British chasers. Also good choices for hosts would be Chris Harrison or Chris Pratt or even have Billy Gardell be in the running to host it

Nothing is official yet. They are "in talks" to host it.

Sara Haines is gonna be hosting The Chase for ABC? Isn't she from The View? Because my mom has seen Sara Haines many times on ABC and I find it surprising that Sara is replacing Brooke Burns rather than choosing a different host. I guess Sara was a fan of The Chase too like me and that's why she's hosting The Chase this time

Ken Jennings (I've read) is to replace Alex Trebek as the permanent host of Jeopardy!, so if they can get another Chaser, they should do like the 1st US version and bring in another Chaser from the UK. The Beast Mark Labbett has already been here, so who you think should come from the UK and replace Jennings?

Not so. Jennings is one of several interim hosts starting January 11. To me, Jennings should not be the new permanent host of Jeopardy because of rules stating that any potential contestant who has a connection to somebody who works on the show can be disqualified. It's been that way on any game show since the quiz show scandals of the late 1950s.

They are obviously going to try out several temporary hosts for Jeopardy and see who does the best. They don't want to have to fire someone. While I wanted Ken Jennings to get it he has guested as a clue reader a couple of times while Alex Trebek was still hosting and wad not very smooth. Whomever gets the job permanently will have to grow into it.

I was impressed with Sara Haines, she made a good host. Although Ken Jennings was too nice, no one can intimidate like the Beast.
