Okay, so Frasier wasn't a funny guy when he first came on "Cheers". Just kind of a necessary straight-guy type to be there for pure storyline reasons. But then he got to be a really funny guy---what made the change?
My answer? Lilith. ![]() Yep, and I'm not sayin' this cause she's my FAVORITE character, but it seems to be true from what I've seen---ho-hum Frasier meets this "creepy girlfriend" as Carla so lovingly puts it, lol, and there's that spark, that chemistry that brought out the humor down inside. Sorry---I was watchin' the episode where Norm stays at Frasier and Lilith's and it drives Lilith crazy, and I thought about this...lol. |

yea Fras got the funnier lines when the lilith story line came up, he was funny after him and diane broke up and he was bitter, but his character got better when diane left and the lilith relationship between them too took center stage

When Frasier broke up with Diane, and joined the gang of regulars at the bar at Cheers, he was allowed to loosen up a bit, and become one of the guys. He really hit his stride as the cultured college boy surrounded by the regular working guys at the bar. That contrast really made his character funny.

The thing is, Frasier I think was always funny. Think about it. Originally, the writers just wanted to use somebody to build the Sam & Diane storyline. However, the audience and viewers started to really like him and no matter how much they tried to get people to dislike him, the more they loved him. Eventually, they had no choice but to make him a regular.
