Facts of Life vs. Happy Days.

Happy Days and Facts of Life had many similarities as well as differences.

• Happy Days was about a group of teenage boys growing up at a public high school in the 1950s. Facts of Life was about a group of girls growing up at a boarding school in 1980s (current time period when broadcast).

• Happy Days started out with 4 regular cast members to having at least 9 regular cast members with many reoccurring cast member. Even though Potsie/Anson Williams was Nancy Oed and became wallpaper, he never was fired and stayed on the entire series. Facts of Life started off with 10 cast members and it was whittled down to 5 with few reoccurring characters here and there in the series.

• Each show had a feisty red headed matriarch figure who came to the rescue and offered wisdom. Both Mrs. G. and Mrs. C. were friends in real life.

• Happy Days had The Fonz. FOL had The Fonzette (aka Angry Jo).

• Happy Days was much more successful at spinoffs (2 major hits) than Facts of Life (not a single aired episode despite numerous attempts).

• The actors who played the Core Four on each series (Potsie, Fonzie, Ritchie, Ralph for Happy Days) stayed friends for decades after each show ended.

It's funny because Jo's original name was going to be Foxy, a clear reference to the type of character they were emulating. Once they had their Fonzie, other characters were sidelined, much like Chuck Cunningham. In fact, Chuck went up against the Lost Girls at the TV Land Awards, in the category "Favorite Character Who Went Missing". (Chuck won).
