My name is Michael Jameson from Nashville, TN and I have been lurking for a while...I just needed a place to share my shock on this one!
Just when I thought Alex Keaton was the single most predictable character on the show, he managed to shock me on last nights episode "Ready or Not." I saw it for the first time last night and imagine my surprise when Alex is talking to Mallory about the "adult" relationship with Rick, and he admits that he lost hist virginity at 17. Of all the characters on the show, I would not have expected that from him...anyone else? |

I guess it is a little surprising considering most conservatives usually believe in waiting until marriage to have sex. I don't know if you know this or not, but there is actually an episode where Alex loses his virginity called: Summer of 82. In the episode Alex is seduced, and has a one night stand with a College girl who's 21 years old.

There was the infamous Alex having sex episode, but there are also some moments littered on the show where Alex can be as pigheaded and simple as they come. Famous cases in example:
1- 18th birthday. Runs out on his family who planned a birthday dinner for him for a bar run. And he's mad at Elyse? Hold up, wait a minute! I mean, I know that's it's good to hang out with your friends and all, but your family is forever and he had no right to disrespect them just because he turned 18. That's a silly excuse. "Because I'm 18". 2- The episodes with Daphne Zuniga. The prom episode: I thought Alex was much better off going to the prom with Daphne instead of that simpleton Jeri Gertz. If I was in that predicament, I would have just told Jocelyn or whoever her name is to back off. I mean, She refused him the first time and he asked Daphne. That's all there is to it. 3- The stocks episode. Alex should have left good enough alone, but NOOOOOO, he had to keep buying and buying stocks and almost put his family in the hole. 4- The Valedictorian episode: Come on, geta grip, dude. Be happy that Daphne Zuniga won. Please, I wouldn't be destorying a relationship for something that didn't matter to a hill of beans. 5- The Best Man episode. Alex jeopardizes his friendship with some guy because he's getting married. How is that going to change everything? I mean, they could still ahve been friends no matter what and getting married shouldn't be a difference . 6- The episode where Jeff and Mallory go out and he asks Alex what to do and because he listened to Alex, ruined a perfect date. Alex was a BAD BAD person to ask for dating advice. Alex never had good dates anyway, with the exception of Daphne Zungia, Ellen, and Courtney Cox. There are many other moments too, but Alex really needs to get his head out of his ass and get the big picture. |

Well, a question I once asked myself...would I want to hang out with my favorite tv characters in real life? NO WAY. Alex was self-centered and insensitive (he showed flashes where he wouldn't be), which is why we loved him. He was this smart-ass who'd make us laugh for 20 minutes a week. Small doses is good.
Dan Fielding on Night Court...totally loved him, no way I'd want to be any where near him. Frasier...pompous, hot-tempered guy I'd get real tired of. But again, detached from him on tv, he was great. Maybe Kevin Arnold or Norm Peterson would be a good real life friend. |
