True, but unfortunately, Mrs. Garrett was proud to a fault. She wouldn't ask for help from anyone (which I think goes against her own advice system, but anyway).

Really. She could have called him and said she'd like to cater for a few of his dinner parties. He would totally have accepted. Then, once the word was out, she could have gotten more gigs from other rich people at the parties.

Mrs. Garrett wasn't a cater at the time this episode was made so that suggestion wouldn't have worked. Mrs. Garrett didn't want handouts. When Blair offered to give her a house on one of her properties, Mrs. Garrett refused. I like this episode because it does show the seriousness to financial problems people have. Also back in the 80's, animal food was cheaper than cereal or other human food. If that's all Mrs. Garrett or people in her situation could afford during that time, that's why she said it.

I think that's so foolish she refused to even entertain that notion. We're talking about your life, for Pete's sake. You could accept some help at least temporarily until you can back on your own two feet again. She could watch Blair and Jo in the future in season 4 episode 1 and learn a lesson from that, lol.

But her other job was willing to pay her more than the school job. Why would she take a handout when she’s able to work to support herself? This is why I love this episode because it shows you have to do the work yourself than rely on others to take care of yourself. We’re seeing more and more people today not want to work and expect others to take care of them. We should appreciate Mrs. Garrett’s strong will to do things for herself than to criticize

I'm talking about if she were in dire straits and hadn't found that Howard Johnson's job. If she had been left destitute. If she could in no way of support herself, I would be all for her accepting some help until she could be on her own again.

I like really like that episode a lot, and i love how strong and independent MRS G is: she's the best!!!!

I also like the fact that the girls are doing everything in their power to help her, and even in the end MR PARKER shows what a fine man he is!!!!!
