Original Music on a TV sitcom is not heard on the DVD or youtube but its heard on - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Antenna TV? Anyone know why? I figured if it wasnt heard on the DVD or Youtube I defintely thought it wouldnt be heard on a episode aired by Antenna TV. Or is it in situations like this you can only hear original music on local syndicated versions?

I believe the old TV contracts -- cut before anyone predicted the new media -- granted music rights to broadcast versions of the show, network and syndicated, which would include the new digital broadcast stations.

Where it gets off track is when copies are sold to the public (DVD, VHS, BD) as that was not considered at the time and rights holders / unions want to renegotiate those rights. Clips on youtube might be derived from the DVDs etc - or might be considered a new medium not covered by contracts as it delivers to the public for pay (in the case of streaming or download). Also when the form is altered/shortned/edited it can be considered a new program not covered by the original contracts.

It was a song by Prince that I heard today on Different Strokes and was surprised because it was my first time seeing this version in over 25 years.
