Mondays are My 3 Sons days for me and today I watched from the commercial DVD Season 3.20 "Dream Book". First Bub was in top form in this getting off the best lines against Mike's snide comments against him (Bub). And yes, this was a complete episode as I saw a scene I had not seen before, one showing Chip up in a tree and Rob telling him not to make any comments to make Steve feel old. Hadn't seen that in TV Land versions.
BUT, reason for writing this is at the end of the show Steve is shown playing his clarinet 2 different "songs" but the songs heard in this commercial DVD version are totally non-descript total NON-songs, almost sounds like practicing. Now I knew when I was watching this that I remember Steve actually playing real well known songs when I had seen this show before off of TV Land and Nick At Nite. The commercial DVDs wiped out the real songs Steve played and replaced the 2 songs with total non-descript clarinet tooting. Not music at all. What was funny that in the show the girls Steve is "playing" to are all thrilled with his "moving" music that takes them away to another place. The commercial DVD version took me to another place to, heck.

I did watch my TV Land versions after I saw my commercial disc just to check and Steve did play 2 well known songs. Bub has a funny line to Mike after Mike puts down Bub's "hocus pocus dream book he bought from a lerechaun" Bub says "he also has a smart aleck grandson that's gonna get hit in the head with that hocus pocus book". This show was funny and everyone seemed hot, even Bub as everyone's head was shiny with sweat. Must have been hot in the studio that day.
Well, I couldn't remember the name of the first song from the TV Land version but the 2nd song he played was "I'll See You In My Dreams". The babes are enthralled, I wonder what they'd think now if they knew they're now shown on the commercial DVDs as listening to Steve practicing on his sax instead of playing "dreamy" songs. By the way one of the 2 friends of Mike's is the son of famous band leader Les Brown. |

I just compared the TV Land version that was posted on Facebook to the version on my CBS DVD. They are exactly the same.
HA, didn't you post on some other thread that you ordered the S3 DVDs later than when they were issued? I'm thinking they might have had a music claim and remastered the audio. |

Stevea, are you telling me on your COMMERCIAL DVD that you heard Steve play real songs
, "I'll See You In My Dreams" and that other real song, which I can't remember it's name. I have no idea what Facebook has but there are real songs heard on my own TV Land version, of course, but on the commercial DVD that I have both songs are nothing but saxophone noises, not real music. Could there be 2 different versions of Season 3 that were commercially released?

I'm the first to admit I'm not real familiar with these songs. But I recently watched the version on Facebook which I think has a TV Land logo. The songs are definitely identifiable as "real" songs. Then I listened to the CBS (commercial) DVD version. It sounded exactly the same, same melodies. It definitely did not sound like non-songs, "noodling", or practicing.
CBS could have been forced to re-do the individual DVD due to a copyright claim, that's the only explanation I can think of. |

If you scroll to the bottom of the linked article, under Music, the composition "I'll See You In My Dreams" loses copyright on 1/1/20 and goes public domain. BUT audio recordings of the song are copyrighted until 2025!
Egad I HATE this stuff. Who in their right mind would allow the retention of rights to a song for a century? https://lifehacker.com/these-1924-co...-in-1839612665 |

So that you know, here's how "I'll See You In My Dreams" sounds as sung by dream girl Doris Day:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1eiHm6Peho Is this one of the songs Steve plays on his sax in the COMMERCIAL DVD? |

In both versions there appears to be a recording playing along with his sax, and they sound identical. I was checking because I've made edits to S3 to add in the songs, and I thought I'd have to do it again. By the way HA (off topic) this site claims to have all 156 episodes of Bachelor Father: https://www.rewatchclassictv.com/col...tcom-1957-1961 I know someone who placed and received an order on this site. |

Thanks for the tip, the guy seems to charge reasonable prices too. But I think the catch is there are 157 episodes of Bach. Father and he says he as "all" 156. My guess is he's missing the one episode I'm also missing:
ep. 5-10 28/Nov/61 Star Light, Star Not So Bright. Seems no one has this episode. Though I did just send the guy there a message asking if he has this particular episode. If he answers I'll let you know. |

Earlier today, I listened to both versions playing simultaneously and separately, over and over again. I did detect a "slight" difference. However, they were both equally "dreary" and not "dreamy" in any sense of the word.
Now, IMHO the best "dreamy" sax solo ever would have to be in "Careless Whisper." P.S. Hazel Anyday, the TV Land version of this episode out there on the internet is most likely a copy of yours

Wham! I agree on Careless Whisper.
Thanks for the analysis on Dream Book. Also HA I didn't check the episode count on BF. You're probably right, he doesn't have that. |

HA I finally have Star Light. Would you have anything to trade for it? It's a pretty valuable item. If I recall correctly all your M3S S12 is from Odyssey, or edited later Nick at Nite?
