I was watching Supermarket Sweep and I wondered if Al Howard is still living? Because I haven't heard much about him and I do know that Al Howard Productions got sold to Fremantle. Whatever happened to Al Howard?

I tried to find information on Al Howard to find out if he is still alive but nothing was mentioned. He might have retired or passed away. His son Henry was a writer on the David Ruprecht version of Supermarket Sweep.

Oh, So Henry Howard was a writer on the David Ruprecht Supermarket Sweep. No wonder why I see Henry Howard's name during the end credits of Supermarket Sweep. I wonder if Henry's the new owner of Al Howard Productions now?

Hi, Bestie! He must still be alive. I could not find where he died. But he must be retired.

Al Howard passed away in 2016 at the age of 90 years old (06/10/1926-10/08/2016).
Sadly his son Henry Howard who wrote many of the Supermarket Sweep questions during the Ruprecht years passed away at the age of 61 in April of 2019. As well as writing for Supermarket Sweep Henry was an accomplished Poet who had some of his work published. Hank as he was known to his friends fought hard for social justice (something he learned from his parents Al & Alice). He was well known in the North Hollywood community which he resided. Henry did not leave behind any children. |

Thanks for posting this. Though Al Howard is gone, his creation lives on when ABC brings back Supermarket Sweep with Leslie Jones hosting. I should also add that Al Howard created the original Sale of the Century that turned out to be the lone game show that would be a hit after NBC overhauled their daytime schedule in September 1969. The other two, Letters to Laugh-In and Name Droppers had much shorter runs. But Sale of the Century would return in 1983 with Jim Perry hosting and enjoy a six year run.
