The original version of this show ran on A&E for 9 seasons, approx. 2003-2011. It's had a kind of revival of late, rerunning on the Dabl network.
The how had a very personable host, Tanya Memme. The concept had hidden cameras in a house that the owners were having trouble selling, and prospective buyers walked through and made candid comments, many not very complimentary. The video was played back to the owners for reaction, and in the second segment designer Roger Hazard came in and directed numerous improvements--mostly re-painting walls and moving or removing furniture. This segment showed most of the work in real-time, and the interplay between Tanya and Roger was really entertaining. Then in the third segment the same prospective buyers were brought back, and of course loved the improvements. The concept really worked--like I said, it ran 9 seasons. Now they have brought the show back for new episodes, Monday night on FYI network, repeated on A&E in the original time slots on Saturday morning. Sad to say, it is nothing like the original. There is scant replay of the prospects' comments. Tanya is still there, but there is no Roger for her to banter with. You don't see much detail about the improvements (very little of the real-time work), but the owners seem to always like them (such was not the case in the original). The show really hurts for Roger, but we have miscellaneous designers who really have no relationship with Tanya. In short, I'll stay with the reruns, thank you. Wonder if anyone else has ever seen this show. |
