Should ABC have give John Ritter more than two seasons with this dramedy?

As someone who just watched S01-S02 of Hooperman on the DVD sets (and have reviewed these on this site), I don't think the series should have lasted beyond 2 seasons.
The reason I say this is that while S01 was excellent & had a good mixture of comedy & dramatic episodes, S02 was mainly comedy. That's OK if the show is ONLY a comedy, but from the beginning Hooperman was designed to be a "dramedy", i.e. a series that combined both humor & serious elements. So, based on what S02 was like - I suspect S03 would have possibly been even more comedic that S02, and that wouldn't have been too interesting IMHO - at least not to me. In essence, I think 2 seasons was fine for this show, and I think it ended at the right time. |
