3 things

Why would Mr. Swanson leave his job in the middle of the day and drop Chuckie off with no one home. You would think he would have made an announcement in the store that he had Chuckie here and come to sporting goods. Not take the word of a 5 year old that the kid he was with got “losted.” Mrs. Murdoch obviously wasn’t home yet or could have taken him for shoes. Then she appears at the Cleaver’s house. (Weird) Didn’t seem much time went by from losing Chuckie to his getting home.

Why would that shoe salesman just leave the shoe department to look for Chuckie. Doesn’t he have to sell shoes?

How did Beaver know what shoe store to go to since Mrs. M didn’t tell Wally as Wally didn’t know.

Only good part is when Eddie showed up and the Cleavers were mean to him.

Yeah Eddie saved this episode. And that final scene with him insulting W&J without them knowing it (til he left) was great! "People being the way they are."

In answer to the other points:

1. Today Mr. Swanson would be arrested for child abduction.

2. It was a slow day?

3. Beaver took Chuckie to the closest shoe store (or maybe the store name was on a note with the money.)

One other note. In this episode there's the scene where Beaver is walking on the sidewalk with Chuckie, and he's saying, I like you, Beaver. Yet one season later in the babysitting episode, Chuckie doesn't even know him.

And Ward makes a comment about a baseball he got, and I think he makes a comment about mis-spelling Gabbie Hartnit's name when he signed it. Did the episode Ward's Baseball not exist?

Right. Hey maybe that was another baseball and he was doing a Larry Mondello to the baseball. Baby Ruth, Augy Dickey and Kiki Gehrig. Gabbie wasn’t even on Ward’s Baseball.

Yup they might have been mean to Eddie but he got the last word with his comment. It was nice of them to apologize.

My initial reaction, and one I still hold is this:

Chuckie's mother had a whopping amount of nerve to barge into the Cleaver's home and make a sudden "request" ( read: demand ) of Wally to shop for shoes for her son. I mean really; what is the kid going to go barefoot because he can't have new shoes right now

Pull-leeeze!

My observation, had I been at the read-thru, would be: dump this script. Who wrote this? (Good question--let me check...Connelly and Mosher!!) So much for dumping the script!

I went to the dump with someone's dad once and my parents did not know. It was the late 60's. So, it could happen. But I was walking down the road and asked for a ride. I was not in a store.

Maybe there was one shoe store that most people with kids shopped at? Things were so different then.

Somebody on FB had a different take on the episode, saying that, in their small town, people always had neighbors' kids do them favors like that.

and back then there were more churchgoers and that meant you saw your neighbor at church as well as at work so kids being with people in the community wasn't such a big deal.

But, to come over and insist that somebody do something just because and do it right now, I am not sure how often that would happen.

Ward was totally wrong with the jab at Wally blaming a junior in high school for creating such a mess. It was a woman in her 40's that caused the mess.

Also, Ward or June could have said, "Mrs. Murdock, neither of us knew anything about this. Didn't you know, like maybe last night, that Chuckie would need shoes? Maybe next time you could call us and ask if we could do it, and we could plan for it."

The woman was way out of line. Also she left Chuckie all alone at home when she went to ask Wally or tell Wally to get him shoes. She should have had Chuckie with her and then just pushed the kid right into the house that would’ve been really funny kind a like when Mrs. Mondello pushes Larry.

The way she just barged in and put them on the spot would be thought of as grossly impolite if done to other adults, even if they did get shamed into acceding. Yet, the implication seemed to be that it was OK to do so to Wally, as if his time was considered less valuable as an absolute truism.

It would be different if an exasperated mother were to drop in to a neighbor and ask for them to mind their kid because she had to attend to a family emergency ( illness, ER visit of a relative ). But to push her way into a home in a panicky state over getting....shoes for her son!!??
