Stepmothers in long running sitcoms:
Margaret "Clancy" Williams Make Room for Daddy or The Danny Thomas Show Carol Brady The Brady Bunch Barbara Douglas My Three Sons Sandra Sue "Abby" Bradford Eight Is Enough My personal favorite was Abby on Eight is Enough. The character was realistic. She came into that marriage to Tom Bradford with issues of her own dealing being a stepmother to eight children, balancing going to school, working part-time and caring for her new family and coming to terms with losing her first husband. She built friendships with the older Bradford children and not trying to be their "mother" except for Nicholas because he was eight at the time and needed more of a motherly type. |

I liked Carol from Step by Step. I think she made a pretty cool stepmom, even if the stepkids never got along. Also, it was interesting to see Fran Fine from The Nanny go from the role of Nanny to stepmom once she married Mr. Sheffield.

I liked Abby Bradford. She was a wonderful, three-dimensional character and a lot of the advice she gave to the kids I still remember today.

I have to say Abby Bradford. As the poster above said, she was more a "friend" to most of the kids, except for Tommy and Nicholas. I think a lot of women would've been intimidated by the idea of suddenly having 8 stepchildren, but Abby handled it well.
