Something I always wondered about Archie. He seems so "old school" and set in his ways, yet he roots for the New York Mets, which were less than ten years old when the show first debuted. He's also a fan of the New York Jets and they too are a far younger team than their cross town rivals, the New York Giants.

I always wondered why Archie wasn't a Yankee and a Giant fan, rather, a fan of the "newer" teams, especially with Joe Namath's long hair which is something Archie hated about Meathead and others...

He was a Mets and Jets fan because they played in the area of NYC he lived in which was Queens. At that time, the Yankees played in the Bronx and the Giants played in CT

Queens is 109 sq. miles. I remember Archie and Mike taking the subway to Mets games. I don't remember talk of the distance of Shea stadium to the Bunker's home. But, sounded like greater than walking distance. I don't recall Archie voicing hate of the Yankees or Giants which is common in two team same sport cities like NYC.
