I don't really care about the movies. The key is to make friends with the guy at the ticket counter at the movies.

Anyway. I think it's absurd that TV is rated. I think people should have the sense to not let their kids watch Jerry Springer and South Park...

I generally support movies the ratings system. What disturbs me is that R-rated movies are clearly being marketed toward teenagers, even though they aren't supposed to get in. So, in effect, a 14 year old goes to see what used to be considered a XXX-picture and enjoys what adults used to consider totally unacceptable. I also have a beef with the lack of live-action G-rated movies and the very few PG-rated ones.

The TV ratings fares better, but has its flaws. The unintended side-effect of the system that went into affect six years ago includes explotation like South Park and then the idiots who created it can say, "We'll we use the highest rating!" Plus, Friends having the same rating as Frasier and All in the Family? That's just plain goofy. But, all in all, whats TV-G is usually TV-G and whats not is not.

movie ratings piss me off...like in American Pie can out when I were in 6th grade so like me and my friend couldnt go and see it...and its not like we were bout to see it with our parents so we had to wait until it came out on video to see it...which took forever..Also most of the movies that are rated R are directed towards my age group and teenages...when we cant even get into the damn thearter...I mean im 16(well less then a month till) and you have to be 17...what is the big deal...and its not like I can pass for a seventeen year old either cuz im only 5'3 and the slight differnce between me and a 12 year old is the fact that I am developed(I am trying to go about that in a smooth manner) Sneaking into thearters is a b**** and complicated so I dunno


also...12 year olds get into pg-13 movies then why can 16 year olds get into R movies?

I think the movies and tv shows are a little bit over-rated when it comes to films in th theater. I've seen both PG, PG-13 and R- rated movies. And, there are times when I see that the PG-13 films are more graphic in some ways than the R-rated films. For example, Cruel Intentions is 14A, and it has lots of stuff that younger teens should not see. And, then there are films like Me, Myself and Irene that are R rated, and don't seem too bad. I think the ratings of films is totally screwed up, in my opinion. What seem to be okay films are called Restricted and the films that don't seem viewable to teens are called PG or PG-13. I don't understand how films are managed to be rated like they are.

TV shows aren't rated over here. If a show is not meant for people under 15 then it isn't shown before 9pm (8pm on digital satalite and cable) and if it isn't meant for anyone under 18 it isn't shown before 10pm.
In general I agree with movie ratings. What annoys me is when the film classification board gets scissor-happy and cuts bits out of the movie. In my opinion, if a film has anything which is a bit extreme, it should NOT be cut - instead it should be given an '18' (that's the equivalent to an 'R' as far as you guys are concerned) and the cinema-going public should be allowed to make up their own minds as to whether they want to see it or not.
Another thing that annoys me is when movies which are clearly not meant for younger children are given a low rating just so more people will go'n see it. An example of this is 'Lord Of The Rings'. I felt that some of the battle scenes were too strong for children under 12, yet instead of giving the film a '12' rating, it was given a PG, with the warning "some scenes may not be suitable for under 10's" So if it's not suitable for under 10's why the hell not just give it a 12??!!
The British Board of Film Classification are bunch of nutters! They will happily cut some adult movies to shreds but if they see an opportunity for a film to make big money they'll let absolutely everyone see it regardless of whether the material is suitable or not!!
