"Checkup":

According to John K’s Book “To The Moon”, this episode is entitled: “The Check Up.”

The girls want to go to Bloomsteins for dresses. They are having a sale. Dr. Stanton comes in and wants to examine Ralph so Ralph will be healthy for his promotion to assistant starter. Ralph isn't home, so the doctor says he will stop by later. Alice thinks she should wait until Ralph gets home. Trixie thinks up a solution. The girls ask Ed to come down and wait for Ralph. They say that a doctor is coming to examine Ralph. The girls leave. Ed comes in followed by Ralph.

Ed picks up a letter. Ralph: "If you are so anxious to read it, read it." Ed said he wouldn't think of reading someone else's mail. Ed asks Ralph if there's anything that is sealed that he would like to see what is inside. Ralph: "Yes, your head." Ralph opens the letter. It's a letter from his Aunt Fanny and he wants Ed to read every word from it. Ed does it, but he reads the part about Ralph owing her $6.00. Ralph kicks Ed out. Ed leaves, but comes back in. Ed says he was instructed by the girls to wait until Ralph comes home. He says that Ralph is going to be examined. Ralph thinks he's coming because Alice wants Ralph to take out more insurance. Ralph wants no part of it. Ed says that insurance isn't so bad. Ed: "If anything would ever happen, I would get $5,000. I got Trixie insured up to the hilt." Ralph still wants no part of it. Ralph: "Alice knows that I'm going to be promoted to Assistant Starter and I'm going to get $.50 extra a week. When that doctor comes, I won't even answer the door." Ralph gets another idea. He will purposely fail the examination. Ed: "You are a quick thinker." Ralph: "One problem. I am in perfect physical shape." He is? Ralph: "My heart is all right. I am a couple of pounds overweight." A couple pounds? He then says he will act like he's got chronic alcoholism when the doctor comes. Ed: "Even when you eat Rye Bread Ralph, you get drunk." Ralph brinks out a bottle of whiskey that's empty.

A knock on the door is heard. Ralph's speech is slurred and unintelligible. The doctor comes in, introduces himself (but doesn't say where he works) and Ralph acts like he is drunk. Ralph: "Which one of you is Dr. Stanton?" The doctor says he isn't here to play games. Ralph: "I'm Doctor Stanton Mr. Kramden." The doctor says that he is in no condition to be examined and will wait until he gets sober. Ralph: "Don't you insult me. I am never sober." Ed: "The last time I saw you sober Ralph was 14 years ago at your wedding." Question: If Ralph hasn't been sober in 14 years, how could he be still alive and not be in some kind of special home? Ralph: "Sobriety leads to trouble." The doctor says that he has seen enough. Ralph asks him for a drink. Ralph gets the bottle of whiskey and makes like he's drinking and collapses on the table. Ed: "He passes out at 7:25 every night." Doctor: "When the company sees my report, he will never have to take another examination." The doctor leaves.

Alice comes in and Ralph reveals what he did. Ralph says that he knows the doctor was here so he can be examined because Alice wants him to take out more insurance. Alice says that that wasn't the truth. He was over here to get you examined to make sure you were fit for your new job. Ralph (yells): "I HAVE A BIG MOUTH!"

Episode #152 (Syndicated episode #69)
TV: Attached to "Halloween Party."
VCR: Attached to "Honeymooners Christmas Party."

"Forgot To Register":

Alice is in the kitchen. All of a sudden a big parade marches on Chauncey Street. It's Harper Vs. Penrose in a local election. One guy in the parade (probably it is Frank Marth’s voice) says: "VOTE FOR PENROSE! WALTER PENROSE FOR ASSEMBLY!" Trixie comes down and sees the parade with Alice. Ralph and Ed are involved in the festivities too. They are voting for Penrose. Trixie tries to get Ed's attention, but she can't. The parade ends. The girls talk about how much time the boys have been campaigning for Penrose. They are planning to vote tonight so they will al go together. Trixie leaves. Alice goes into the bedroom.

Ralph & Ed come in. Ed is dressed as Uncle Sam. Ed walked up to one guy and said: "Uncle Sam wants you." Ralph talks about Penrose. He says if he wins, Penrose has him and Ed to thank. Ralph mentions all the "influential" groups that are voting for him. The bowling alley, the pool hall etc. Ralph: "Who's voting against him? The teacher's association." Ralph mentions other groups that sound like they are important that are against him. Ed: "Who are they? Who are they?" Gee, sounds like all the important groups hate Penrose and all the other "influential" groups like him. Ralph mentions that when the parade went by the pool room, everyone came out but Ed said that could have been because of the fact that the noise was drowning out the race results. After all the work that Ralph & Ed did for Penrose, Ed says that he isn't going to vote because it's too much trouble. Ralph mentions when the pilgrims came to America, they went through a lot of trouble just to let you vote. Ed: "If they knew about me, they would saved themselves the trip. They had a similar argument in "The People's Choice." Ralph says that Ed is voting tonight and as Ed leaves, he asks Ralph a dumb question. Ralph kicks him out.

Alice comes in. Ralph mentions the fact that when he was at the pizzeria, he asked the people to spell on their anchovy pizzas with anchovies: "Vote For Penrose." Question: Given the size of anchovies, how could anyone do that? Ralph asks Alice when they vote tonight to wear the "Vote For Penrose" pin. Alice says that she can't because she's voting for Harper. D'oh! Not something that Ralph wanted to hear. Ralph argues with Alice for voting for Harper and says that the wife must vote for the same person as the husband. They talk about what each candidate has done and promised to do. According to Alice, Harper has promised to clean out all the slums. Ralph: "You are going to vote for man who's going to take away our home?" Ralph mentions that Penrose is going to promise to take the garbage out more times. They continue to talk about the good things that each candidate has done. Ralph said that Penrose was responsible for the new paint job on a school. Ralph: "He ordered that 14 coats be put on that school and he had his company do it." Coming from a person who has had a painting job once in his lifetime, I can say that 14 coats of a new paint job on anything is 12 coats too many. Ralph: "Harper is not for people like us. Penrose is for the little man and that's what I am Alice. I am a little man. Don't you dare say it." Trixie comes in and mentions that one lady can't vote because she forgot to register. Ralph remembers that he forgot to register and explains it to Alice. He apologizes for the argument and says that Alice should vote for anyone she wants. The episode ends and judging by the fact that Ralph and Ed continue to live in their apartment in later episodes, I guess we are supposed to believe that either Penrose won or Harper won and didn't eliminate the 328 Chauncey Street building.
