Soaps in Depth Magazine Ends Print Publication
Soaps in Depth Magazine to End Print Publication
by Jillian Bowe April 23, 2020 Sad news for the soap opera world. Soaps in Depth, the biweekly magazine created by Bauer Publications, is to cease publishing in print. The series of magazines first started in 1997 and they focused on each of three networks' soaps, with ABC Soaps in Depth, CBS Soaps in Depth, and NBC Soaps in Depth. NBC Soaps in Depth was discontinued two years later in 1999, when "Another World" and "Sunset Beach" were cancelled, leaving "Passions" and "Days of Our Lives" to be featured in ABC and CBS editions of the magazines. The last edition goes on sale May 4. On Thursday, Executive editor Richard Simms made the announcement via Twitter, stating: "You've probably heard by now that Soaps In Depth magazine has folded. Our last issue will publish on May 4. The news came down suddenly, so we didn't really have an opportunity to say a proper farewell. I'd like to take a moment to do that now." https://daytimeconfidential.com/2020...nt-publication |

I wonder if there will be a digital edition of the magazine.

I believe they are continuing online. It costs a lot for publication for print magazines.

When you look at the general picture soap opera magazines were huge when people started getting into soap operas so if they missed an episode or week people could read the recaps and learning about the soap opera stars beyond the soap opera. With the king of soap opera magazines Soap Opera Digest making it's debut in the 80's this paved the way for other competitors to produce better soap opera recaps and star interviews. With Soap Opera Digest it was successful and soon other soap opera magazines followed suit with the debuts of Soap Opera Weekly Soap Opera Magazine and Soap Opera Update the soap opera magazine took off like a rocket and spread like wildfire. And now with Soaps In Depth Magazine now gone Soap Opera Digest is now the lone survivor in soap opera magazines and with the rise of watching soap operas on streaming devices such as Roku and Youtube fans can watch the episodes again and again without reading a single recap because people know a soap opera episode by heart. But I can tell you that Soap Opera Digest will be the next to end in the near future and these soap opera magazines will be collector's items in the future for people who are fans of the actors and actresses in the soap operas and the magazines that will replace the soap opera ones will be game show magazines and reality show magazines
