Why was Donald Eugene Webb in Saxonburg, PA?

I am not sure if this has been asked or answered previously, but I was watching this again today and was really wondering how he ended up there. I know they were looking for jewelry stores to rob, but even with that, looking up Saxonburg on a map, it is such a small town in and so far away from Mass. Anyway have any clue? Thanks!

I have always wondered the same thing. The segment says that Webb and an accomplice visited a jewelry store in Saxonburg the day prior to Greg Adams' murder. Maybe they were just targeting small towns on the east coast that they considered to be easy targets. Had Webb not ran the stop sign, Greg Adams would still be alive most likely.

Surprised he didn't surrender at some point. 19 years of living in a secret room must have been as bad, if not worse, than prison.

There was a rumor (believed by the FBI to be credible) that he was going to surrender in 1990, but nothing ever came of it.

I too was rewatching the Donald Eugene Webb segment yesterday! That took me down a rabbit-hole of reading articles on the case.

Webb was actually staying at a hotel 45 minutes away from Saxonburg (in Pittsburgh, perhaps? I've never been able to confirm that but it would fit the bill) at the time with an accomplice, Frank Lach. It is believed Lach was actually present when Greg Adams was murdered. Although the UM segment portrays a Webb-by-himself scenario when he ran the stop sign and was stopped by Adams, another man is shown with the actor in Webb's role during the jewelry store encounter reenactment.

Both men were associated with the Patriarca family of Boston and Providence, RI and committed robberies all over the East Coast to fence goods back up in Providence specifically. Webb had a history of moving about the country; he spent considerable time in the Boston area but didn't always reside there, from what I understand. He was actually from Oklahoma originally.

Apparently, it was Webb and Lach's method to reconnoiter a given area and case jewelry stores and homes throughout. They were pretty well-traveled.

Funny! I have actually been turning on pluto tv and keeping unsolved on...reminds me of the days where I am watching the same show as other people at the exact same time, haha! Where did you find out this info about Webb and his accomplice? I'd be interested to give that a read. Let me know. Thanks!
