The Facts of Life Soundtrack/Discography
Do we have somewhere on the forums of a playlist of every song played on the show? I can't find a list anywhere. Has anyone tried to catalog the songs on the show? How about we could start making one?
Here's what I can think of at the top of my head: Season 1 episodes: S01E02: Like Mother, Like Daughter: "Frere Jacques", "I Love Paris" by Cole Porter, and "It's Been a Long, Long Time" by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn, and "La Marseillaise" by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle Season 3 episodes: S03E12 Green-Eyed Monster: "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair" by Mitzi Gaynor Season 6 episodes: S06E01 The Summer of '84: "Where or When" by Lena Horne, "Strangers in the Night" by Frank Sinatra, "Feelings" by Morris Albert, "It Had To Be You" by Frank Sinatra S06E05 Crusin': "I Can't Help Myself" by The Four Tops, "Hot Stuff" by Donna Summer, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" by The Righteous Brothers and "Dancing Queen" by ABBA S06E13 Christmas in the Big House: "We Need A Little Christmas" originally sung by Angela Lansbury in Mame, "O Holy Night" by Adolphe Adam, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" by Judy Garland, "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobby Helms, "I'll Be Home For Christmas" by Bing Crosby Season 7 episodes: S07E01 Grand Opening: "Freeway of Love" by Aretha Franklin S07E05 Men For All Seasons: "Rhythm of the Night" by El Debarge, "Everytime You Go Away" by Paul Young S07E07 Doo Wah: "My Boyfriend's Back" by Angels, "You Wear It Well" by Rod Stewart S07E08 Truck Stop: "Stand by Your Man" by Tammy Wynette and "Cuchi Cuchi" by Charo S07E11 We Get Letters: "St. Elmo's Fire" S07E13 Christmas Baby: "The First Noel" S07E14 Tootie Drives: "Riding Along in My Automobile" by Chuck Berry, "Little Deuce Coupe" by The Beach Boys, "Dead Man's Curve" by Jan & Dean, "Fun Fun Fun" by The Beach Boys S07E19 Atlantic City: "Tie A Little Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree" by Tony Orlando and Dawn, "Having My Baby" by Paul Anka, "Eyes of A Stanger" by Flyman Season 8 episodes: S08E05 Off Broadway Baby: "Two of Hearts" by Stacey Q S08E15 A Star is Torn: "We Connect" by Stacey Q S08E18 '62 Pick-Up: "Hot Rod Lover" by The Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-las, "Let's Put the Fun Back in Rock 'N' Roll" by Freddy Cannon & The Belmonts Now, I know I'm missing tons of songs so that's where I need your help. |

Great idea, Impressions!
Season 1: "Like Mother, Like Daughter": Tootie sings "Frere Jacques" at the beginning. Mrs. Garrett sings "I Love Paris" (Cole Porter) Mrs. Garrett sings "It's Been a Long, Long Time" (Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn), changing the lyrics from 'kiss' to 'quiche' Everyone sings "La Marseillaise" at the end. |

We Get Letters has St. Elmo's Fire playing at the beginning of the episode. Also, Off Broadway Baby has Two of Hearts. A Star is Torn has We Connect.

Good luck, guys. After compiling and organizing the writers database, I'm all "databased out" for a while.

You can tell the ages of the writers because most teenage girls or adult women back then would not be into those types of songs. Nancy O's taste for Donna Summer much more realistic. Probably they went to Felice and said who is favorite artists are?

DONNA SUMMER
Quote:
You're absolutely right about that one: since season 1 was 1979 - 1980, the girls would probably opt for DONNA SUMMER, THE BEE GEES, THE GIBSON BROTHERS etc... (great music to boogie eh???) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I also tended to notice that a lot of the episode titles, were based off of old movies or old music that these boomer writers had probably grew up with or watched. This is probably another topic but here are some examples. I'm sure there's way more than this list but these are the ones I recognize... "Front Page" "From Russia With Love" "The Sound of Silence" "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" "The Way We Were" "Gone With The Wind" "Bus Stop" "It's A Wonderful Christmas" (twist of "It's A Wonderful Life") |

CRUISING

You're right about that and i always found it odd: especially on the 'Cruising' episode, where the girls start singing a 1960 s song (although they sang it very nicely), until ABBA came on the radio and then i thought: "That's more like it!" ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Except for Molly who would be listening to Joan Baez records, but Molly is in her own little world. Intestesting thing was Molly Ringwald listed Bob Dylan as her favorite music artist in the "Worst Job Ever" interview so she probably really did listen to Joan Baez too.

I don't recall the songs they listened to when the Girls were manning the radio station and whether they were the hits at the time.

There was that one episode where Natalie was wearing the lightning bolts hat and Tootie was singing Celebration. When they hosted the Friday Night Videos, Kim said Kool and The Gang was her favorite group.
