When Dolph Sweet died after Season 4, Nell Carter looked like she couldn't go on with GAB during Season 5 and 6. Sure, they put it on the show...but she was also on drugs to take the pressure off.

I just feel that Nell Carter missed Dolph Sweet badly once Sweet died.

I can understand that. They had been working together for four years. They were probably good friends by the time he died.

Nell Carter DID stand by Dolph Sweet when he was at his death bed as well as give-out Dolph's eulogy.

Supposedly she was clean at this point. However I did read somewhere that she ended up going back to drugs.
