Does Fremantle own Bill Cullen's Chain Reaction? That would be nice to see weekdays at 11AM right after his game show Blockbusters. I saw the Chain Reaction remakes on GSN. Bill is better than either of those hosts and presumably the contestants from the original version are a lot smarter. I would also like Alex Trebek's rarely shown Double Dare to return to Buzzr (left before I started live streaming it) before or after the Classic Concentration hour. Other shows I would like to see join the Buzzr lineup include Win Ben Stein's Money, Greed, Trivia Trap, and Supermarket Sweep's Lifetime companion Debt. It is really too bad the Dick Clark Pyramids are not available to Buzzr.

Grrr! Buzzr is no longer full screen, with large empty spaces on both sides. This happened last year for a few weeks but eventually it went back to full screen.

Like Pyramid, Chain Reaction is a Bob Stewart creation. I think the name of his production company is Basada. Whoever has the rights to Pyramid reruns would probably have the rights for Chain Reaction as well.
The Cullen version has one contestant relying on two celebrities (as opposed to later versions, which had contestant teams of 2 or 3 IIRC), so there was too much luck involved IMO. I also didn't like that the point value for a word remained the same no matter how many letters were showing. I enjoyed the end game's premise of two people alternating words to form a question that the third person had to answer correctly, though the original version never settled on the exact rules, like how many questions to win the jackpot and how much money to award for each question answered right. Bob Stewart tried this premise on at least 3 or 4 of his shows. The best game show of these is probably Go! in 1983, which had two teams of 4 contestants + one celebrity captain battling it out. Besides Go!, I'd also like to see Win Ben Stein's Money and Greed again. |

You would think the owners of these game shows would have a sense of urgency to get these episodes back on the air in some form. What the heck are they waiting for? These shows are only going to decrease in value as time goes on, they have zero value to younger generations.
There are rumors that Bob Barker's The Price is Right is about to be released to the streaming service Pluto and perhaps Buzzr in the near future. |
