The two reasons why the Jeffersons was almost cancelled after 78-79 season
Came across the ratings for the 77-78 and 78-79 season and the show ranked #52 and #49 in those seasons. Even the show with Demond Wilson in 1978 that only lasted 4 months on CBS had a higher rating than the Jeffersons and finished at #44

In July of 1979, The Jeffersons moved on up to No. 1 in the ratings, stayed in the top spot throughout the summer and continued as a regular fixture in the Nielson Top Ten.*

The show never finished #1. The highest it finished was #3 after the 8th season
Dear TV Fact Fan, FYI, your information is incorrect. I have a framed copy of the NielsonTV Ratings for the week ending July 8, 1979. The Top Ten shows are: 1) The Jeffersons 2) Alice 3) M*A*S*H 5) Carter Country 6) Mork & Mindy 7) Angie 8) Three's Company 9) Barney Miller 10) WKRP in Cincinnati Note nine of the Top Ten shows are sitcoms. |
