I was recently watching season 1 episodes on StarzEncore and comparing the differences between those episodes and the DVD versions. I haven't noticed much of a difference except for 2 part episodes. For example "Retrospective" parts 1 and 2 and "The Trip" parts 1 and 2 run a lot longer on StarzEncore than on the DVDs. Sony used the syndicated prints for those episodes which run at 22 minutes and change each. The versions StarzEncore uses run between 27 to 28 minutes each. That's significant considering that there is 5 to 6 minutes worth of content that has been cut.
That would have been a really big deal for me a few years ago but since I have access to StarzEncore I can simply record those episodes and have the proper versions in my collection. As far as edits go, it looks like the two part episodes from season 1 are the only ones that had extreme edits across the entire series release on DVD. Other edits include a song or two that was not able to be cleared. To my knowlege only one of the songs not cleared on the DVD release that was restored to the StarzEncore package was Prince's "Controversy" on season 4 episode "Health Club". All of the other music edits (very few) from the DVDs were carried over to the StarzEncore package. Most of the music is still intact with the exception of Prince's music in "The Rivals"(generic music on DVD and StarzEncore airings), "Valentine's Day Retrospective" (generic music on DVD and StarzEncore airings) and "The Health Club" (restored on StarzEncore) I still give kudos to Sony and Shout Factory for releasing this show to DVD in a perfect condition as possible with as few edits as possible. |

Yes it was discovered years ago Sony scammed fans with some of its shows on DVD with edited versions. That's why I was so excited to finally get the complete series for the Jeffersons because it was scenes on the DVD that was not on the Sony version. |
