Default What's the difference between German Chocolate cake and regular chocolate cake?

Yesterday my mom and I were gonna have a chocolate cake for Valentine's Day but all the supermarket had was German Chocolate cake and we just gave up and had cookies instead. I would like to know the exact difference between German Chocolate cake and regular chocolate cake? Also is there chocolate cakes made with fudge flavored frosting because my mom has never seen any cakes with this frosting before?

Simple. A regular cake has 3 layers. A German cake has "nein" layers.

Nein means no in German , so therefore a German chocolate cake having nein layers would actually mean it has no layers, therefore this cake would not exist!! Right ?

German chocolate has a milder chocolate flavor. If you like dark chocolate or a fudgy flavor, you'll probably find German chocolate too bland.

Maybe that is why I like it, besides the good frosting, being the cake is milder, cause I usually find regular chocolate cake a bit too rich and heavy !!

I know that German Chocolate Cake has about 60% more sugar and is also made with Buttermilk.
