Cool Sabrina Carpenter to Make Broadway Debut in 'Mean Girls'

"Girl Meets World" Star Sabrina Carpenter to Make Broadway Debut in 'Mean Girls'
by Andrew Gans
Feb. 11, 2020

Singer, songwriter, and actor Sabrina Carpenter will make her Broadway debut in the hit musical 'Mean Girls' beginning March 10 at the August Wilson Theatre.

She will step into the role of Cady Heron, succeeding Erika Henningsen, who will play her final performance February 22. Carpenter will continue in the role through June 7.

"GET IN LOSERS, WE'RE GOING TO BROADWAY," the pop singer-songwriter tweeted alongside the news in a reference to the 2004 movie the musical is based on.

Unfortunately this didn't happen as her Broadway stint was announced around the time just before the COVID-19 shutdowns.

"Mean Girls" will not be returning to Broadway when things reopen.

That's sad that that happened- after all the hard work everyone involved had put in beforehand until things beyond their control forced the show to shut down. Not due to any production problems, behind the scenes strive or disinterest but because of this plague! No doubt monies are tight if not getting quite scarce for the backers to have been able to put forth this show any time in the foreseeable future so I understand why they believed they had to cut their losses but it's still quite sad.

I only hope that when public events are able to safely take place again, others will remember Miss Carpenter's many talents and skills and hire her for another Broadway show.

Even though on the whole I disliked GMW, I always thought Miss Carpenter's talents were among the more positive aspects of the show and helped make it more tolerable instead of totally unwatchable (despite her character not always doing likable actions or having likable dialogue). I also think that Corey Fogelmanis and Cecilia Balagot have what it takes to have fulltime performing careers if that's what they want.

However, it wouldn't hurt for all of the above to heed the late Suzanne Pleshette's advice for aspiring performers: Namely, if performing is ALL one wants to do, has the talent for it,one is willing to endure the many pitfalls AND have the stamina for it- do it but if one wants to do anything else- then they should DO anything else.
