Default Uncle Joe

When Petticoat Junction was cancelled, they should have moved Edgar Buchanan over to Green Acres as a regular. He made an excellent foil for Oliver in the early seasons.

I think that’s an excellent idea. Joe would have been a perfect for the show. A good story plot would be Uncle Joe outfoxing scammer Mr. Haney

Uncle Joe was played by Edgar Buchanan, Patrick Buchanan is a political commentator.

With respect to the idea of moving his character to Green Acres, it wouldn't have made sense at that point (as much as I love the idea). Acres was in season 6, the show had 6 main characters and a host of recurring characters and rating were in decline, the last thing the producers were looking to do was add another costly legacy character. If you recall a young girl name Lori was added to the cast of characters briefly, it seemed like some consideration might have been given to adding her as a permanent character, but nothing came of it.

LOL. Sorry for the slip - early morning post - I corrected Edgar's name in the OP.

Yeah - I'm sure the price tag for Uncle Joe would have been too high at that point -- but it would have increased the comedic value of the show. Lori was obviously a big mistake - I thought she was awful even back then on the original run. Maybe if the casting and characterization had been better... Pamelyn Ferdin, perhaps?

" And that's Uncle Joe, he's movin' kinda slow at............ Green Acres !!!

I think it would have been cool! I would have liked to also have my favorite Bradley girl Bobbie Jo have a recurring role on GA after PJ ended ! She was funny ! I remember when she popped up on an ep. bringing fried chicken over from the Shady rest when Oliver broke his ankle !

Yes, Laurie Saunders as Bobbie Jo would have been a nice addition to Green Acres too -- Fun if they has paired her with Eb (they had good chemistry on earlier episodes) and if she tried to teach Lisa how to cook!

That would have been fun. He was one of the few PJ characters that seemed to translate to GA very well. His interactions with Eunice from the first season were really funny.

Yup, Joe was a great character. And he would have meshed well with Sam Drucker too, who carried over from PJ.

By season 6 Hank Kimball's character had really deteriorated and they could have brought Joe in for a replacement

Default Uncle Joe from PETTICOAT JUNCTION

who else thinks that he would have been good as a supporting player on the show when PJ was cancelled?

Hank Kimball was one character I didn't like. He always so spacey. I wondered how Oliver put up with him.

Or how Ralph Monroe could have been in love with him??!! I thought he was hilarious , I liked the Mr. Kimball character , but he really was kind of mental! Not just a little goofy, a country hick like the other residents of Hooterville , he really was out there, like he should have been on some kind of medication !!

He was kinda wackadoodle. But I like him better than con artist Mr. Haney.
