Default Can't remember for the life of me....... Johnny Bago

I remember a show from the 80s but cannot find a match for love or money. Some help would be such a relief.

The show in question was about a low level mook who did time for a crime his boss did. At the beginning of the series he was released from prison and was summoned to dinner with the boss for some kind of reward. At dinner a woman shot the boss and dropped the gun in his plate. he had to go on the run and his old mafia mother approved of him killing the boss as he had made his bones, and he was pursued by his ex-wife who had become a parole officer to throw him back in prison.

Thanks everyone !

No, this was in the 80s and had mostly stereotypical 'Italian' characters. Thanks.

The setup of getting out of prison and being framed and pursued by his ex was the opening of each episode.

I finally found it. It was "Johnny Bago". Some of my recollections were a little off, it was 1993, not the late 80's, and the star was younger than I thought. Wikipedia has a page and it's referenced in the pages of the actors that were in it, but that is only useful if you have one of those names, it's only listed on one page of all of the tv lists on wikipedia buried in a network schedule. I read dozens of those pages and it's only on one. I had to buy an encyclopedia of tv shows to find enough keywords to hit it. This thing has next to zero internet presence.

It sounds like Johnny Bago was based on the My Cousin Vinnie movie, which came out a year earlier in 1992.

This was the main reason why I stopped tape trading because youtube took all the fun out of it and had all the obscure shows I thought Only was in my vault. So I was like......."What is the point?
