Default Was Billy Joel attempting to do a 50's-60's like sound on the An Innocent Man album?

I heard Billy Joel's An Innocent Man album on Youtube and noticed that some of the songs had a 50's like sound. Like the song Careless Talk has a 50's sound and the song Tell Her About It sounds like a 60's song. Was this because Billy Joel wanted to make a throwback to oldies on the album? Another thing I notice is that the song For The Longest Time has an acappella vibe and I wonder if that was Billy's first acappella hit? Was Billy Joel experimenting a new sound to attract a new audience with An Innocent Man?

Hi, Bestie! Billy Joel, I think liked Frankie Valle and the Four Seasons. a lot of his songs sound like theirs. Probably because they all come from New Jersey. What do you think?

LaBestia,

Billy Joel was definitely going for that 50's and 60's sound on An Innocent Man. Just one example you didn't mention would be Uptown Girl, which has the Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons influence in it. And BTW, Billy is from Long Island.

Every morning my mom has to hear An Innocent Man and she dreads coming into my room because she dislikes hearing it each morning even more than Billy Joel's cover of Hey Girl and I just like doing karaoke to Billy Joel every morning to get my day started. I also like the cover of the An Innocent Man cover because of the pose Billy does crossing his legs on the stairstep that makes it look like he's got a charley horse in one of his legs because of the way he's posing and it makes me think Billy Joel injured his leg while doing the photo shoot for the cover. I like the An Innocent Man album so much I have it on my birthday list

I got the An Innocent Man album today for my birthday and it's fantastic. Even though I'll get to listen to it tomorrow I always liked the cover. I also got another Billy Joel album as well which is the River Of Dreams album from 1993

A belated happy birthday to you, Bestie. I know you'll enjoy the An Innocent Man album. So many great songs on it (An Innocent Man, Uptown Girl, The Longest Time, Leave a Tender Moment Alone, Tell Her About It, etc.). I'm sure you'll like the River of Dreams album, too.

I got to listen to my copy of Billy Joel's An Innocent Man today and it's one of my favorite birthday gifts. And my favorite songs are of course An Innocent Man and Leave A Tender Moment Alone and Tell Her About It and when I got to listen to music today that's one of the first albums I opened and I love it
Thanks for your reply Marshall
Bestie
P.S. Is my copy of Billy Joel's An Innocent Man a new remastered enhanced version? Because my copy has a CD Extra interactive section that can be played on the computer. What is in the CD Extra version? Is it a photo gallery and an interview and music videos

You're welcome Bestie,
I looked the info up on Discogs, and the extra section has four videos. Leave A Tender Moment Alone is from a Billy Joel concert, while The Longest Time, Keeping The Faith, and Tell Her About It are the music videos.

I'm glad the album's one of your favorite birthday gifts

So that's what the CD Extra portion of Billy Joel's An Innocent Man album is?. The music videos sound interesting to watch especially the Tell Her About It video which features Billy in the fictional band BJ And The Affordables performing the song on the Ed Sullivan Show as William Joel. The video is fun to see

That's what it looks like for the CD Extra portion. No Uptown Girl video, but the other four. I like the Tell Her About It video, too, with the Ed Sullivan Show theme.

I got to see the CD Extra today on my copy of An Innocent Man and though it was a little confusing to start at first Mom and I finally got it to play and Mom and I had so much fun watching Billy Joel videos. Mom and I thought the video for Keeping The Faith was cool and she thought Billy looked so cute in his outfit and with his hairstyle too. I sure wished that they had the video to An Innocent Man on there but the CD Extra portion of An Innocent Man was so fun to see
