Default Networks you watched at their beginnings

In 1979, our cable company first added channels besides ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS. One of those channels was Nickelodeon, which was in its infancy. It showed blocks of “Pinwheel” for about half of the day. Another was WTCG, which soon became WTBS. Our cable company no longer carries Nick or other Viacom channels. And I haven’t watched TBS in years.

WB and CW to me they're the same channel. I remember watching Unhappily Ever After and weird one seasons shows like Muscle with Adam West. The CW I was already watching Smallville and Supernatural when they switched to CW. To this day I probably watch more CW shows then any other channel.

WB and UPN merged to form CW.

You are correct.I did watch UPN. I just remembered Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Roswell were cancelled on WB and moved to UPN.

I remember the "Pinwheel" years of pre-Nickelodeon. That is the only show they aired, for a long time. Long, long blocks of nothing but Pinwheel. No commercials, either. Later, they added other shows.

I remember getting a crummy Fox signal from a low-power UHF station in the mid-1980s. No-one in my area had even heard of Fox, back then. I also remember the entrances and too-swift exits of The WB and UPN.

Some networks, like MTV, were successful from the beginning. Others, like Nickelodeon, took several years to build up an audience. And Nickelodeon was on financially shaky ground at the start, while Fox was well-funded from its beginning.
