Who remembers “The Jim Nabors Hour”? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

This was a variety series created for Nabors by CBS when he decided to move on from Gomer Pyle, USMC. The Wikipedia article about the show states it was canceled due to the “rural purge”, but the guy on this video claims CBS wanted Nabors to sack his friend and GP costar Frank Sutton and he wouldn’t do it.

I remember that show when it aired, in fact GETTV ran a few shows a couple of yrs ago. It was ok, everyone had a variety show back than.

It wasn't that bad, but I liked him better as a guest star on some of the other variety shows.

Ronnie Schell, who also played Duke on Gomer Pyle USMC, Karen Morrow and The Nabors Kids were also regulars on the show.

From what I remember of The Jim Nabors Hour, the variety show format wasn't the right type of vehicle for him and the same can also be said about Frank Sutton. The two of them had great chemistry working together on Gomer Pyle USMC, but the variety show format didn't yield similar results. Overall I think the majority of viewers were disappointed with The Jim Nabors Hour and would have preferred Gomer Pyle USMC to continue for two more seasons before CBS infamous rural purge of 1971.

i agree i watched part of 1 ep on youtube and as much as i like jim nabors for some reason i just did not care too much for this show

Most variety shows are el-stinko and don't age or syndicate well.
