Default A Christmas Story is Highly Overrated Garbage. I Won't Bother Watching it Again.

I had heard about the 24 hour marathons TBS and TNT air of A Christmas Story every Christmas but hadn't actually seen it until this week. I watched the whole thing but there is no way I would ever watch it a 2nd time. The father is an absolutely horrible role model, shame on him for using all that profanity around his kids, even worse using Christ's name in vain several times. (real appealing on a Christmas movie ) The father also had disgusting taste with that sleazy lamp. And shame on the producers for all the swearing they had the child actors use. Ralphie being obsessed with a BB gun wasn't healthy either.

I can't figure out why A Christmas Story gets overplayed on TNT and TBS in a marathon every Christmas Eve and each time I watch it I cannot figure out why it's such a holiday classic. In the scene where Ralphie gets bullied and starts fighting the bully I think Ralphie should've gotten grounded for attacking the bully because although Ralphie didn't mean to start the fight I think the bully should've gotten punished for teasing Ralphie. Another scene I can't figure out of A Christmas Story is why didn't the mother tell Randy to eat all his meatloaf and instead tries to baby Randy by telling him how to eat like an animal. Didn't they have manners in their home? The last scene of A Christmas Story is one that I've never figured out and Ralphie should've told his mother the truth about why his glasses broke instead of making up a story about how an icicle smashed his glasses. I think TNT and TBS are the reason why A Christmas Story became so popular because since it's release in 1983 people knew little about it until the marathon. What's also surprising is that there is even a sequel to A Christmas Story as well as another movie called My Summer Story too and as long as it's a hit A Christmas Story will continue to get airplay in a marathon every year

To each their own. It's one of my favorite films and never gets old. Jean Shepard's books are fantastic.

I enjoy A Christmas Story. I thought everybody did. But if you don't like it, that's ok.

I've always enjoyed this film. It is chiefly a comedy so it's not exactly the standard sentimental Christmas movie.

I think that's what makes it so popular. It's not about anybody learning any lessons or the "true meaning of Christmas." It's just about a kid who really, really, really, wants something for Christmas and he doesn't think anybody realizes it or the ones that do are dismissive. And then boom! The old man was paying attention!

I first saw it in the mid eighties when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen. I still think it's one of the funniest movies ever made, not just Christmas movies.

I never watched it all the way through, only saw bits and pieces here and there and never found it to be very interesting!

Random Trivia:

Scott Schwartz who played Flick (the kid who got his tongue stuck on the flag pole) later went into adult films. He managed a few adult stars before going into onscreen work. He doesn't do it anymore though, this was during the mid-90s to around 2000.
